As my first attempted use of VCDS I would just like to shit off the seat belt warning chime so I can drive about 800 yards to my mailbox to get the mail without wearing a seatbelt and being warned about it. I thought I had found a website that described the steps which were 17-Instruments, followed by coding -07 which was supposed to get me to a "Long Coding Helper" link but instead produced a long list from which to choose what appeared to be a variety of controls in stead of a page that should have allowed me to elect the disabling of the seat belt warning chime. Come to find out the webpage I was using as a guid was for a Mk6 VW rather than my Mk IV R32. Can anyone point me to a source which will lead me to the process of turning off the seatbelt chime?

Like all others, post a full auto-scan of the car so we know what is in it...

I think I can perform the full auto-scan but am uncertain how to post it as I'm corresponding with you on an iMac but use an HP PC for VCDS efforts. I will try nonetheless.

Maybe this will help (not sure but give it a go):

[17-Instruments]
[07] longcoding
[Byte 01] [Bit 1] (de)activate

8-bit module

[17-Instruments]
[07]
[xx?xx]
decrease the value with 2

Thank you. I will attempt to follow your suggestion. My difficulty was that between 17-Instruments and 07 longcoding I thought I had to click on coding-07 to get to 07 longcoding. Wish me luck because there's little skill available. Thanks again -

See my signature for how to post an Auto-Scan.

It's only a text file so you can copy it onto a USB stick on the HP PC and plug that into the iMac.

After a seemingly endless struggle with sharing password between and iMac and a PC I think I'm ready to post my AutoScan here in hopes of getting help with two functions on my 2004 VW Golf R32, namely turning off the seat belt chime and getting the instrument panel always lighted without turning on the headlights.

So using Copy/Paste here goes:

Thanks. Is that suggestion for my desire to have the instruments lighted even though the headlights are off or is it to turn off the seat belt chime? I'm guessing it's for the instrument .

NEtech's suggestion is for the seatbelt.

The interior dimming would require a hardware modification and if you were to do that all of the interior lights (radio, door panels, cluster, etc) would be illuminated at the same time. That isn't something that can be tweaked via the diagnostic port.

Thank you very much. Many cars seem to use this feature making the instruments more visible during various daytime lighting conditions. My wife's old Audi B5S4 has these impressive aircraft orange colored gauges that are always lit. The R32 has these "boy racer" blue gauges that are illegible when not lit and a silly blue with the headlights on. Thanks again for clearing up my uncertainty as I’m very new to VCDS and Windows 10 as well.

That did it. Of course like any Newbie I disregarded the warning to record the existing coding before changing to 05230. You wouldn't happen to know offhand what the original was in case some future owner might want the seat belt warning chime back? I'm quite pleased as it is so feel free to disregard this request. Thanks again -

VCDS saves all the changes you make in files in the folder C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Debug

Look for a file there named CodingLog.csv for coding changes, and AdpLog.csv for adaptation channel changes.

It's also in the Auto-Scan in post number 9 in this thread. :)

Thanks. I'm a Sellers/Strangelove fan as well. What I'm experiencing clearly goes beyond the "Mineshaft Gap" to the "VCDS Gap".

Apologies for the old thread, but I have the same thing. We carry the dogs in the back of a 2023 RSQ3 and they keep setting off the seatbelt warning chime.

Using VCDS 23.11.0
When we select [17 - Instruments]
Then [Coding 07]
Then [Long Coding Helper]

The helper only provides options to change bit 2-4, nothing for bit 1, is there any information about the 3 variants ?

Please post an Auto-Scan so we can see exactly what Instrument Cluster this vehicle has.
