DRLs inactive when light switch at '0' position.

Hi Folks,

Last week I found an option in VCDS to turn off the DRL's in my fathers VW Caddy Maxi Life, when the light switch was in the '0' position (totally to the left). I enabled/disabled it and it worked immediately as expected.

Now a week later dad has decided he would like the DRLs on all the time again (even when the light switch is all the way off) and for the life of me I cannot find the option within VCDS to leave this function back the way it was!

I was sure it was just a tick box with Cent-Electrics, but I have been through it with a fine tooth comb and cannot see the option. It's like it has disappeared!

I was literally something like "DRLs inactive when light switch at 0 position" or something very similar. I have found some options mentioning DRLs but nothing about what Im looking for.

Am I blind or has VCDS changed in the last week!?

I am using the new HEX-CAN V2 interface and the vehicle is just a few weeks old so 2019.

I think its possible the option I am looking for is

"Select daytime running lights only in switch position auto"

I found this from some googling but it mentions inputting a security code to access this, which I definitely didnt do the first time around.

Thanks for that Uwe. I actually made a note of the codes before I changed anything. And I have now looked at the two logs you suggested from that link and I can see what codes were changed to what.

I am aware that when you tick or untick boxes this then changes the long code, which is recorded. Does VCDS record the individual options in a plain English format anywhere? So instead of telling me 11222333444555 was changed to 55544433322111 it would tell me that Cornering lights were enabled when turning the wheel or whatever the listing is beside the tick box.

Oh and actually, from your experience over the years, would there be any chance that changing the instrument cluster from UK to ROW would some how make some tick boxes 'disappear'? As this is something that I did do in order to get the large digital MPH up in the MFD.

In addition to my previous question (sorry for asking another before you have had time to answer my previous) would the newer HEX-CAN V2 show different options than the older HEX-CAN, for the same control module? As I believe I changed this mystery option with the older interface, realised it couldnt access all the control modules, then purchased the new interface which Im using now.

I know the newer one gives access to more modules but regarding the same module that can be accessed with both interfaces, can options be different depending what interface you use?

New interfaces support a different data source for coding of UDS modules, but your 09: Cent. Elect. (J519) is not a UDS module, so that's not applicable at all.

Daytime Running Lights enabled with OFF and Auto switch positions - common when importing vehicles from the US -to- Canada

Disable "Daytime Running Light (DRL) only active with Assistance Driving Light (ADL) active"

We don't have that on the Golf 6 page - but back when I created it NAR Golfs/GTIs weren't equipped with RLS sensors. ~~I suppose I could add that to this page.~~

Edit, I added that to the Golf 6 page and the Long Coding Helper text is identical (Byte 26, Bit 3) to the 8P BCM.

Thanks for commenting Dana. I did notice that "Daytime Running Light (DRL) only active with Assistance Driving Light (ADL) active" option but I cannot remember if the box was ticked or unticked. I do remember thinking at the time that ticking (or unticking) it would not have the desired effect, but perhaps I was thinking about it wrong. I also don't think the original box that I ticked (or unticked) had the word 'adaptive' or 'assistance' in it.

I think that a good idea for me, is that before I tick or untick any box in the future, to take 10 seconds and just snap a quick picture with my smartphone!

Since the OP had a VW Caddy we might want to move this to an entirely new forum thread but Uwe's link in post #4 applies to your car as well. Do check the CodingLog.CSV file in addition to the earliest (oldest) factory condition Auto-Scan you have from this car to obtain the factory coding values.

If the lights were OK prior to Wednesday,13,February,2019,20:34:24 you could simply enter that coding however I'd want to verify it was the factory condition by checking your log files on the PC.
