Hi, new to the forum from New zealand
I have a customers 2003 New Beetle cabrio (was 2.0 AZJ with 09G tiptronic) Vehicle is stock other than now engine swap.
Owner purchased a AWU 1.8T 20v from 2003 Beetle coupe (had 01M trans mated to it)
We fitted engine for him to his vehicle using his 09G tiptronic trans and TCU original to the car.
Added needed wiring for MAP, N112, Evap relay.

Using engine ECU from 2003 Beetle Cabrio with 09G tiptronic. (US ecu)
Car starts and runs but trans in limp with 01314 code in TCU.
Original soft coding on 2.0 ecu was 00003
Replacement ECU was also 00003, changed it to 00004 but can't now seem to be able to change it back again, 01314 code unchanged.

If original 2.0 ecu is fitted code in TCU stays gone but obviously this ecu won't run replacement engine.
The Leak detection pump code is there as our market does not have leak detection pumps and component is not there.

Hello & welcome to the VCDS forum, glad to see you stepped through the Stargate from the whoretex.
Very simple.......John & as per email, reiterated.

Install correct parts such as 06A-906-032LR not PS and perform repairs which comport, then do the adaptation procedures as per the RTFB.

Install parts that match the configuration and modules.
What happened to old modules?

JPPSG & FOD!

Remove FOD......

Thanks Jack
Only the engine ECU has been changed (1.8T vs 2.0)
No other changes have been made.
Would love to install correct parts if I knew what they were.
Do we need the matching TCU for the engine ECU we are using?

Installing the correct engine is advised or matching a configuration entirely and this transmission is a POS but is the correct controller to the 2.0 NA engine.

Otherwise this is a retrofit or modification and not a qualified repair.

Is this for racing or public transportation?

Have you considered maybe convert car to stick with alternate engine controller or install 01M to match with that type 01M compatible engine you installed?

I would be very and I mean very concerned with the fact that any 09G in a BEC is a POS, wouldn't you?

Yes I have suggested and is my prefrence to convert to stick.
Owner has had 09G rebuilt in the past and is wanting to keep it, another talk is needed as he also wants to go stage 1 which I don't feel the 09G will like.

And yes vehicle is just public transport

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the naturally aspirated 2.0 was still a cable-throttle while the 1.8T was a drive-by-wire?

I'd speculate that a different TCM will be required to get along properly with the 1.8T ECU.

Both engines are DBW

Yeah indeed another 09G trans and controller would be needed to operate with the 1.8T.

Indeed the cabrio POS beetle is DBW with 2.0 or 1.8T with any 09G in USA.

AEG in USA is by cable and stick or 01M.

Take it to stage NONE !

With other projects completed and new clutch arrived I put this back together with the manual box. All is well except a couple.
Cannot re code the engine ecu from 00003 to 00001
Tried logging in with ecu pin and without but soft coding remains at 00003

Traction light on yet no codes.

Auto scan below.

1.8T ECUs of that vintage were typically not interchangeable (codeable) between between Auto and Manual transmissions. The ECU hardware was the same, but the software in 'em was not.
