i guess if nobody wants to answer i will set it and see if it stops doing regen based on the time and distance traveled, and i will report back for the non tree huggers

I am going to speculate that if this works at all, it will reset back to 'not active' every time the engine is turned off and back on again.

Man's will is his heaven!

The saying goes that the freedom to make decisions yourself is a very high good. It is compared to the kingdom of heaven.
Sometimes the saying is used sighing and slightly ironic: one fulfills a wish or leaves it to one's will, even though one knows
that it is not necessarily for his good or that there are equivalent alternatives.

ok so like you said, after 5-6 restarts the ecu turned back stop dpf regen from active to not active, either after restarts or when the time/distance counter gets too high, so will need to get a remap

Did you really think there would be a setting in the ECU that would permanently disable regeneration, which would certainly clog up the DPF, eventually reaching the point where the engine won't even run?

It wasn't staring anyone right in the face in the scan-tool API though. In fact, there's still no clear way to tell when those engines are in "test" mode vs. "cheat" mode using a scan tool.

VAG bosses were crazy to think that they could get away with it.

I'm just surprised that the other car manufacturers have covered up their cheats more effectively so it's taking longer to find them out - but some others have been found out and I'm confident there are more manufacturers who still have a "guilty secret" waiting to be made public
