    HEX+CAN replacing usb cable

Some time ago support sent me a new replacement usb cable for my HEX+CAN as I was having some issues and it was fraying near the usb connector. Today as I am soldering it onto the HEX+CAN circuit board I notice the replacement cable has an extra black wire attached to the cable shield that the old cable did not have. So old cable had 4 wires, new cable has 5, what should I do with the exta wire that is connected to the usb shielding?

The shield is not used on the interface end. You can cut it off.

PS: Since this question pertains to interface hardware rather than the VCDS software itself, I'm moving this up one level from VCDS Support to Product Support.
The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.
