I upgraded the #19 Gateway from a mid to a high (required for headlight leveling retrofit) and I am facing a fault in the 01 Engine Control module.

17149 - Check Coding of ECUs on Powertrain Data Bus
P1647 00 [167] - -
[Checking coding/versions of control modules in drive train]

The glow plug light on the cluster flashes. When I turn on the cruise control (button on the MFSW) I get the cruise symbol with an exclamation point and it won't engage.

When I select CCS not installed in #01 module coding the fault goes away, but CCS doesn't work either.

The #19 gateway is the only part that changed other than adding the #55 leveling module.

My BCM is still a mid version. I am wondering if that needs to be upgraded in tandem with the high gateway.

The fault says coding/adaptation problem on the powertrain data bus. Which modules are on that bus?

Here's an adaptation I made based on the ross-tech wiki.
#19 Adaptations: ENG118779-MAS06614-Multi_function_steering_wheel_control_module Coding Value-Version - CCS

Thanks for any clues.

When the dealer removed the component protection from the gateway, did they return also the FeC codes to it? If not that is the reason your CCS is not working. It’s a SWaP function and requires proper feature enable codes to be activated in gateway to work.

The car had CCS from the factory. Are you saying it needs to be re-enabled in the new gateway despite that?

The dealer had absolutely no clue. When I approach them with SWaP that will be way over their heads.

Thanks.

Yes, it needs to be returned to the new gateway. Gateway acts as the master.

The activation codes are returned to the gateway by using a guided function to return activation codes. I can’t remember what was the exact item name. I’m sure there’s someone here who can verify what it is. Just tell the workshop the exact item name and they will do it.

Correct,

tell your dealer to go to the function, I have marked for you in the picture. After that, he will have the choice to *re-enable* the function by VIN identification.

Actually You need to use the "clearing" option, and then manually enter 19 as the module.

Status just tells the status.

I didnt execute it as I had nothing to exchange but trying the status one gave the option to re-enable as well - but they can hopefully try one of them ;)

We did just that (clearing) and are getting a technical error when submitting the signature. Anyone have an idea?

"When attempting the signature service, a technical error occurred."

One thing I noticed and was told that it was strange:
I have had 3 #19 gateways at my disposal. The original MID, and 2 HIGH versions. We removed CP from the two high versions, and now I can swap back and forth without CP coming back. Is that normal?

As far as I understand the technolegy behind CP it is normal. The Gateway gets the signature matching all the existing modules with CP, so the other Gateway should not have a different signature and therefore still work?

I doubt that all modules get touched, everytime you change the gateway and therefore the should be no missmatch triggering CP?

But wait for people like DV52 or downtime - I am sure they can confirm or explain it better.

It keeps CP fault away, but You can't do FEC restore without doing CP with first GW without doing CP from scratch first.

When You swap between gateways that are matched to car, You won't get CP message. But You can't enable FEC again, because signature doesn't match.

I'm not really sure I can. I think golfi_vend has the best position to explain it as he has authorized GEKO / FaZIT access.

As gateway is the CP master, naturally it should not trigger CP as it has correct VIN and challenge to slave modules. But what golfi_vend is trying to say, if I understood him correctly, is that everytime FeC's are activated, they are signed to that specific VIN and gateway (hw id or something like that probably) and only allow that feature to work on that specific platform. If you change the gateway, CP is ok (if it was originally on that car) but FeC signature mismatch occurs and the FeCs are automatically put to not activated state.
This makes sense because if it would not do that, it would basically allow you to use better equipped car as a mule and enable features for other cars by just swapping gateways and restoring FeCs of the mule car to blank gateway modules.

I should be able to replace the gateway. Here in the US VW doesn't offer the mid gateway as a spare for the MK7, they only offer a high gateway. That's what I ordered. When I took the car to the dealership to remove CP and to restore the FECs, CP worked, but FEC didn't . https://forums.ross-tech.com/showth...lf-LED-headlight-conversion-leveling-problem/
I found out that it's the FEC for the CCS that's causing the problem, so I started this post hoping there's someone who can help figure it out.
In Germany apparently you can buy a kit from VW to retrofit CCS, which includes an FEC code that the dealer uses to enable the SWaP function. So it can be done in a car that didn't have CCS from the factory. Mine did have it from the factory. The question is: how do I get it back?

^ Response is in this thread. Go back to the workshop and tell them to return the FeC codes to your new gateway. No other way. There's even the correct ODIS option mentioned here that you can provide to them.

My post #9 might have been overlooked. We tried just that (clearing) and are getting a technical error what appears to be at the very end when submitting the signature. "When attempting the signature service, a technical error occurred." Unfortunately it doesn't provide a fault number. Does "FFP not OK" provide an clues? Is there any way to retrieve the FFP malfunction codes and FFP warning codes above that?
