Hi this is my first auto scan on my uncles car, I assume this is meant to posted in car repair support, but I can post there yet, as maybe I need to do more posts in here first. (sometimes the rules on other forums). Theres a few faults coming up but nothing wrong with the car that we know of(she runs great and everything works), maybe these are old codes that were not cleared by the previous mechanic?... from what Ive read online people who get the same camshaft sensor fault code cannot start their car!
I got vcds running on my MacBook Air through Win8.1 using VMware Fusion app and I'm loving it- seamless.

Code:

Pacal,

It's not that you need more posts, it's that or somebody (probably me) missed something when they processed your forum registration. :(

Anyway, that should be fixed now, and I'll move this to Car Repair.

There's certainly no harm in clearing those codes, but since none of them are flagged "Intermittent", my guess is they'll be back quickly.

Thanks Uwe and Jack.
so I cleared all the faults on my uncles car, - the Radio antenna open circuit fault came back straight away(the antenna has tape around it due to it be being broke at some stage)... would that cause this fault code? The control module for digital sound package fault also returned, I'm assuming this is because the car does not have that module? The camshaft position sensor fault cleared but will check to see if it returns after some driving. Very embarrassingly, after clearing the fault for Locking Module for Central Locking; Rear Left, the code returned and the door stopped centrally locking(unlocked ok) after working fine! I cleared it about 5 times and played about until its seems to be locking ok now but still bringing up then fault code!... hopefully it continues to lock!

It'd certainly look there first.

Sounds probable. The question is, why does it think it has that module? Try this: [Select] -> [19-CAN Gateway] -> [Coding] -> [Do It]. Recoding those gateways with the value already in there causes them to re-build their internal list of stuff that they think they should be able to communicate with based on what they can actually find to communicate with.

Sounds like something is wonky with that system, possibly a bad connection somewhere?

Warning!
I would consider that G40 code a serious situation only because of the level of damage which can possibly occur in near future if not corrected.

Cheers guys, I just checked again there now, my uncle has been driving the car daily, the cam sensor fault is not re-appearing, which seems positive? if there was something serious how quickly would take to produce that fault code again?
Im going down country to look at a Passat 2005 estate 1.9TDI 130 highline tomorrow, the seller says the service light is on- Am I correct in saying this is a millage based automatic warning light- not actually set off as a result of faults?

If you had a major problem with the CAM sensor, I would expect to see the fault reappear pretty quick. If it doesn't reappear quickly, I would be going with Uwe's thought - connection issue. A wonky connection could produce the fault.

Service light is the service reminder indicator and is mileage/use based. Even if no lights were on, I would scan the car before I plopped any of my quid on it!
