Good day need to switch off fog light warning as i fitted DTM bumper.
The bulb failure warning system on the B7 cannot be programmed, so the only solution is to fit suitable value (resistance AND power) resistors in place of the now missing fog light bulbs.

Hmm...

For front fogs, there's Adaptation Channel 16:
Fog Light Cold Diagnosis
0 = Fog Light Cold Lamp Diagnosis active
1 = Fog Light Cold Lamp Diagnosis inactive (i.e. for DTM Edition)

Provided he never turns them on (ideally by installing a switch that doesn't allow it), this might get him where he needs to be.

Channel 16 gives error.
What error? Please elaborate.

Good point! I had forgotten about the special case of the front fog lamp diagnosis...

Scratching head. It's possible your CECM variant simply doesn't have that channel. How about other documented channels? Do they show?

Since this thread appears to have never been resolved, and since I am facing the same problem, I thought I would resurrect it.

I am dealing with a B7 A4 (2005.5) that had front bumper cap replaced with an aftermarket bumper cap that has no provision for fog lights, so the original fog lights were removed. This of course results in the cold diagnostics indicating that both fog lights are burned out. When I open central electronics adaption I can find all the documented setting for the various channels which display their values except Channel 16. I get the same error when opening channel 16 as tdo4h: "not available." That is all it says, there is no value.

This is where is get puzzling to me: just going into central electronics temporarily clears the cold diagnostic check for the fog lights.

Any idea what is going on and how I can activate channel 16 to turn off the diagnostics?

If I were to change the coding to the rest of the world (1) or special vehicle (5) might that activate channel 16? The vehicle is equipped with xenon headlight and daytime running lamps.

I am going to answer my own question. Since the DTM bumpers were not available in the USA, I thought that changing the coding from 01023 to 01021 (rest of world) or 01025 (special vehicles) would enable Channel 16. I can confirm that it does not.

Any Ideas how to enable channel 16?

The problem can only be solved with Odis Engineering or with VCP by modifying 3 memory addresses in the BCM eeprom

Zagor,

Thank you. Not the answer I was hoping I would read, but it is good to know that the CECM for Address 09 can be rewritten. I wonder why Uwe doesn't offer this function in VCDS? Probably because too many people would brick their vehicles if he did.

I am down to the last resort, fining the original wiring for the fog lights and splicing in a big 6 Ohm power resistor.

Even with VCDS it is possible a mistake coding the byte 18 of a BCM and brick the controller: an encoding is still a writing in the module's eeprom.

It would be correct to always know very well what to do, or ask someone who is able to do it

Only if you ignore the message that VCDS shows that changing byte 18 is a damgerous thing to do.

Certain. It was just to say that vcds already has the potential to do damage. In reality, the damage would be done by the user, not the VCDS

That is the case with basically every tool, electronic or otherwise. Doesn't mean the maker of the tool should not take precaution or make the tool safer to use, within reason of course.

This is certain, just as it is certain that when a technological and high-potential tool is created (such as vcds) it is always very frustrating to limit its field of action

I suppose in this instance you are using limit as a negative where (potentially, as I don't speak for the company and am in no way affiliated) the folks at Ross Tech and indirectly some customers (here I'm speaking for myself only) may consider this limit as a positive. There being a consideration for how many customers would use this additional feature in a knowledge/responsible way versus how many people may accidentally brick/break something.

Might be a headache for customer support, potentially very expensive problem for customer, which can quite easily reflect negatively, justly or unjustly, on the product.

I'm looking at it from the point of view of the designer who creates the tool. Knowing that the tool you created could cut steel but, out of caution, only cuts iron, must not be pleasant, especially when the limit is only set due to the incompetence of some users. That's all
