Adaptive Lighting Fault

Hi, This is my first post although I have been using the VCDS for various tweaks and diagnostics for a year or two now. I have a C7 2012 Audi A6 with HID bi-xenon lamps.
A few months back while running down a dark hwy with my high beams on I hit a bump/pothole and got the following fault. I was able to clear the fault but it would always come back if I hit my high beams. I actually just got used to not using them until I had time to diagnose and fix. After using them the other day the fault came back. After clearing, it comes back immediately now. I attached the fault codes from the scan and warnings I get on the dash. My driver's side high beam is now stuck on when I turn on the headlights. Am I right to be looking at the left height sensor? Or is it something in the headlight? I did get under the car last night and looked at the level sensor and wiring. All looked good. I removed the connector to the sensor, blew some dirt out and reconnected with some bulb grease. No change. I replaced the control arms last Spring but I do not remember any issues removing and reattaching the sensor to the new arm. If it was a wiring problem wouldn't I get an open circuit or short to ground? I really appreciate any help before I throw money at expensive parts.

the motor is reporting a MECHANICAL failure, maybe it moved somehow out of place when you got the bump. did you at least visually inspect it?

I have not. Is it inside the headlight or outside? When I used to clear the code the headlight adaptive feature worked fine. It went through its test at startup and moved in corners just fine. thank you for your reply.

I agree with darkchina, you've got some mechanical issue, maybe a piece of linkage popped loose or something... but without a full Auto-Scan, we can't really dig deeper.

no clue where the motor is. buy one hour on erWin and download all workshop manuals for your VIN.

Thanks for the Auto-Scan... so I did bit of digging... within the HID headlight assembly, there looks to be an item that is several different bits and pieces in a single unit.

V446 - Left variable headlamp positioning motor
G695 - Sensor for left variable headlamp positioning motor
G474 - Left swivel module position sensor
J892 - Left headlamp power output stage 2
V318 - Left adaptive cornering lamp motor

I'm not finding specific details on this item, other than it is inside the headlight, so I'm not sure what you should expect. If it were me, I'd start poking around inside the headlight and see if I can find a ball/socket joint that has popped loose.

Thats really awesome that folks are willing to dig around to help someone. I certainly appreciate the guidance. I have done a little digging myself. It seems others have had a ball and socket joint pop loose on other platforms. The thing that stumps me is that when I start the car or clear the codes the headlights run through their normal side to side and up and down tests like normal. After that test completes the left headlight goes bright and the faults pop up on the dash. I ran tests in vcds to move the headlights around too. The headlight hardware seems to be operable. I do have an extra vehicle so I will be able to do some dissasembly in the next couple days to take a closer look. Are we sure that the second code "sensor for variable lighting motor left" is the one on the left control arm? Or could it be part of the headlight as well? The other thing that stumps me is the fact I have two codes that are always present together. I don't find it likely that both parts failed at the same time. Is it possible that one is causing the other? Thanks again everyone.
