Hi

We have a VW Transporter with an uneven tickover when warm I've been checking all the readings and the KW reading in MVB 04.4 seem very low at -4.9

Has anyone got an acceptable range for this please?

Cheers

Toby

Dgmotors, noted ending battery voltage 10,6 , started at 12 after 6 minutes. DID it drop this far while obtain auto scan? Would like to see how well it rebounded once started.

This issue happens when warm, wondering if charging system just keeping up while running. What is the condition of battery?, age, conditions of post ECT.

The autoscan was done with the engine off and the battery has been replaced as the autoscan was 11 December. in the logs you can see the voltage is 14.52 volts with the engine running.

Have a good look at the injector loom. Running in the hot oil they can fracture (often when the engine is warm). I have the 174 HP version of that van, I could see what mine shows tomorrow if you are stuck. There is no engine label file for my AXE engine though. :(

Good shout on the injector loom.

If you could please check your reading that would be good, I know on the 1.9 PD the KW should be as close to 0 and if to far out from this figure causes idle problems.

On this van it starts at -3.9 when cold and works it way to -4.9 with a hot engine (86c)

Had a look at mine (don't know how to log that many groups together as you have) but in group 4, fields 3 and 4 are marked 'Idle stabilization'. Field 3 changes about slightly on revving but is at 7.1kw at idle. Field 4 changes just after starting for about half a second but then settles at -3.4 and will not change on revving. This was with a warm engine. There are other 'Idle Stabilization blocks' in other groups but curiously only four for the five cylinders the van has.

I thought the idle stabilization system was there to add/subtract fuel from each cylinder to smooth out variations caused by engine wear over time but I've never seen it shown in KW before and with such a range. I wonder if fields 3 and 4 refer to something else?

I did once have an idle speed problem on mine but it was more like a sudden electrical load being applied, slowing the engine occasionally rather than a misfire or an injector problem. Do you know if it's had a cam btw? Once they get past about 100-120k most are on borrowed time!

I just remembered I took this screenshot.

To make a controller channel map see this link just use 01 for engine and output as a .csv file

On the 1.9/2.0 PD this figure is changed by altering the camshaft in relation to the crankshaft, click this link to myturbodiesel.com for more info

Ive had quite a few 4 cylinder pd run bad on idle when the figure is to far out, 0 +or-3 but 2.5PD engine all seem to run quite a high negative value,

Problem van is -4.9
Guitarman -3.4
2005 AXD Van with 60K on the clock -2.9

So I'm guessing -2 to-4 is correct with the problem van being slightly out

Might pop the rocker cover off and have a look when it comes back in.

Interesting. I knew you could use the channel map function for making a pre-label file to send up to Ross-Tech but I didn't realize you could use it 'live' like that. I'll make a map of mine. I wonder why the that figure on mine is frozen once the engine is running?

If there was a reliable figure for that perhaps it could be used to confirm correct setting up of a new cam. The special tools should do that but a lot of folks seem to manage to muck it up!

What is a "following button"?
I *think* he means how can I "follow" a thread i.e. get sent email notifications when there are new posts in a thread?

Ah. In that case, it will be toward the top of the page, Thread Tools -> Subscribe to this Thread.
