Hi all,

I've been using VCDS for years and don't know why I haven't signed up earlier but this one has got me stumped. I think it is all related to the rear window in the hood failing and allowing A LOT of water in. This resulted in the key stopping working (but the car driving) and then eventually a K line fault. I traced this to the module below the subwoofer which was submerged in water. Mircaculously, after drying this out and cleaning up the corrosion it appears to be working and the K line fault has gone. This was preventing the car conencting to VCDS at all.

However, I cannot work out the fault with the remote. I only have the one key and I cannot get it to resync with the car at all. I do wonder if it is a CCM fault and that has got wet? I have seen a few threads about de-soldering the unit that controls the locking and putting a new one in from a donor board and then you don't need to code the CCM?

Here is a log from the other day:

Start by clearing the faults in the 35 and 45. Then do another scan to see what comes back.

I would also suggest a physical inspection of the CCM.

OK I cleared both and then re-ran the scan:

The alarm horn has simply been unplugged hence that code, but it was disconnected prior to this problem without issue.

I also took the CCM out and there was some minor corrosion to the pins/plugs but nothing major and nothing on the board. I cleaned them up and back in and still nothing from the key.

If the drivers door lock can't lock or won't safe then the alarm can't be enabled.

Check the wiring to the drivers door lock, and if all seems OK then it's not uncommon for the microswitch in the lock to go out of adjustment - the Audi "fix" is to replace the complete lock, but this often isn't necessary.

OK so the microswitch on the drivers side has had it - literally nothing left to push down on. The switch itself works and I can replace that once I get the part.

I've cut the old one off, but I am still getting the alarm going off if I try to start the car - I'm not convinced a new switch is going to resolve that problem?

If the alarm still thinks the door is locked and you try to start the car then it thinks that someone is trying to steal the car - wait and see once the new microswitch is fitted...

The problem being the remote doesn't work so I can't switch the alarm off...?

Once the microswitch is replaced you can turn the alarm off with the key in the drivers door - you don't only have to use the remote.

OK so yesterday replaced the microswitch (I've been away!) and all seemed OK.

Fast forward to today, and the alarm is going off again and I just can't understand why. The alarm faults are back after this latest incident saying the alarm has been triggered by the Driver's door contact switch, the hood switch and then interior monitor is an Open circuit.

I disconnect and reconnect the battery and it works fine...???

Any ideas?

Did you clear the faults after swapping the microswitch?

Yes cleared all codes - seems to go away and then out of the blue come back again. As far as I can tell, the microswitch is working as it should, the window drops down as it should. The rest of the car seems to be fine.

The only thing I've not managed to track down is why the remote suddenly stopped working. I pulled the CCM out and it appears fine. Considering the central locking module below the subwoofer was submerged in water and still appears to be working OK (was the source of the K line fault) and this one had some mild corrosion to the pins...

Have you checked whether all the wires going into the drivers door are OK with a DVOM? It's not uncommon for some of the wires to break with the opening and closing of the door.

Well I've just noticed that the passenger door is lit up and the driver's door is not so that may suggest another cable is damaged. Question is, would that cause the alarm problem?

I will try and check this out.

So no obvious cuts in the wires. Do the LEDs burn out?

Still no joy getting the key to connect and it's still setting the alarm off sometime!

In other news, the roof isn't working anymore - the button on the central console does nothing. The lock/unlock button is still working...
