I have a VW Polo AW which has ambient lighting in the dash and front door cards and the colour is set at white...

I would like to change that to other colours,is this possible?if so what coding is required to do this and also have an option in the 5F (Background Lighting)

i just don't know how to add the colour options.it appears that the coding options on the mk7 golf are worded differently to the polo!!!!!

Are you sure that you have ambient package plus? because if you have ambient package that is just white color without option to change color, no RGB lights.
Also not all of the BCM support ambient package plus, they are missing LIN bus pin that controls rgb chip.

One of the adaption channels gives me the options to change colours but none of them do anything so it maybe that you are correct...

if you don't have 3 color to change from factory, then you don't have ambient package plus and no coding will help you get it. You can code from 3 colors to 10 colors but only if you have it.
it can be retrofitted but you have to check whether bcm supports it, can't help you with that on polo, if it were passat or tiguan I would.

Apparently his BCM does not support this because the Polo AW BCM does not have the adaptation channels for multi-color stuff

Is it possible to change just the LED's (and of course run an extra wire and check your BCM for support) on passats/tiguans and have RGB ambient lighting, or do you need to swap out the whole interior pieces that hold the light strip?

it's possible to swap led module but it needs to be cut around 3-4mm to fit on optic, once you take it apart it's self explanatory, so you can re use interior pieces, also you need to add lin bus wire connect to bcm, and positive wire needs to be permanent +12v otherwise there is dtc since lin bus is controling on/off color etc...
BCM must be HIGH module otherwise no joy. LIN bus pin is 61 on bcm. there is option to use audi a4 8w footwell lights which are also rgb modules, or smaller ones from a3 to make it full

i don't have time for elaborate DIY but you need facelift BCM, gateway has to be 5Q0 high, MIB2 capable of ambiente light color (don't know which sw is capable, also I think that it can only control door rgb module not footwell ones, that can only mib2.5) or MIB2.5,
on rgb led housing: these housings have a longer protruding plastic for fiber optic which need to be cut, also sides needs to be cut to fit on old fiber optic;
Pinout
pin1 – +12v Kl.30
pin2 – LIN-Bus
pin4 – -12v

You can use either passat or audi rgb housing

A4 footwell light are regular size, while A3 new size, really small square, but they do the same thing
