Hi
Golf V 1,6 Fsi from 2004.
After getting into the ditch - no SRSs got triggered - but following problem is present:
The left hand turn signal is on all the time.
I took out the steering wheel covers and problem went away for couple of hours. When I looked outside the position lights were on again.
I pushed on the module with my hands and the lights went away - untill couple of hours again.
No other fault codes than following for Cruise Control Switch - Defective.
I found an used module from same car and with exact same part numbers - all numbers are the same. 1K0953549A
With all your experience - would you say its the module thats is the problem and not the turn signal switch?
And do I need to program the second hand module? Maby see to that the numbers are the same than in the the module thats in the car now?
Or maby theres something I can do to fix this module or the turn signal switch? Im going to take it apart now.
I would very much appreciate some help.

We'll need you to post a full Auto-Scan to see exactly what errors you have and how the modules are setup currently.

Is it OK to do that even if my VCDS is an China clone?
Im going to buy the original because Ive started to get problems with the USB connector - but Im not going to get it untill couple of weeks after New year. They are on Holidays here in Sweden.

The error code is:
00895 - Cruise Control Switch (E45): Defective

The settings for J527 (wrote them down in the same order as appearing):
0000022 (cruise control, rear wiper)
01279
785
00200

I'll pop out and take a full Auto-scan, just in case.

So - can anyone help me with the info proveded?
Theres no other fault codes except radio - and door locks.
Under Engine is cruise control with an other fault code and implausible signal 17977
I cannot wait two more weeks.
Reason why I thought asking here was that you guys (and Dana) are specialists in VAG. And I thought this problem is quite common with the steering column control unit. It doesnt show on fault readings - because its behiving "normally" in the wrong position.

We don't attach stuff here. Text gets pasted in-line and pictures get hosted elsewhere then embedded by reference. See How to Post Pictures.

At least you're honest. Lots of people pretend they have a REAL VCDS, when they're too tight to pay for something that works properly, has support and won't break anything all by itself.

If you're happy plugging a Chinese "clone"* into your german car... would be be happy driving a Chinese car?

German cars have their issues, but it's nothing compared to a Chinese car ;)

* "Clone" is the wrong word - some of these "clones" are so poor, they directly cause damage.

Thanks - here is my order, lets see when I can pick it up:

It all starts somewhere - reading fault codes - and ends up in bigger needs ;)
Maby Im going to need to do other things than reading codes on the car - hope not.

Do you recon I found the problem?
Better see after that the Module is not damaged as well? Connector looks ok on it though.

Admin Note: Click the Edit Post button under the post above to see what I did. You need to put at actual image (generally a filename that ends in '.jpg' or '.png') between image tags.

If you click on the link you posted:
https://imgur.com/a/4KbMIeb

then right-click on the image itself, you should have an option like "Copy Image Location" or "Copy image address". That's what you need to put between IMG tags.

And the whole board:

Im ordering the one module that has exact the same numbers on the label. And will find out if I need to make some changes to it. I have saved the old parameters.
And hopefully Ill soon have the real VCDS.
Happy new year to you all!
And thank you - Im ever so thankfull for your Forum!

Hmmm... that looks like corrosion from fluid of some kind...

Could it have gotten wet in the accident? It looks quite severe, like maybe it wasn't just plain water?

I'd check inside the lever asssembly too, in case it has similar corrosion, and try to find where it came from.

Yes it looks like water running from the lever connector to the main connectors side - but also something, maby cold soldering (not sure if thats what its called in English), at the main connector.
The pin 19 and 20 (two solderings to each) are for 30V supply and 31V supply in the main connector.
Why the damage on supply pins? Thats strange.
Ill try to give this my electric repair guy to look at, in real life and hopefully remember to tell you too what he thinks of it all :)

Though - this module is SO well protected so I find it hard to think that any water from outside could get to it! It has thick insulation inside the steering column cover!
But yes - the window was left open and there was rain that day of the accident.

I took out every single female pin in the lever connector (quite easy even if I have the tools to do it) and there was no burned wire or other damage.
But - yes you are right! I need to take the circuite board out from the lever too!!! Just in case. Thanks :)
We dont want to risk damaging an other board for sure....

did you consider trying to fix what you have now? I am skilled in some repairs and your damage doesn't look too bad.

I would at least give the board a good clean and eventually fix broken traces and bad soldering.
the major dirt is around the connector but it looks as just dirt, I don't see any missing component.

of course if you don't have the skills yourself then find a friend who does :)

I have left it to our own electric repair guy - but he had to rush to hospital with their doughter.
So - Waiting for now - for his opinion on it =)
I always want to repair.
Everything :)
My hubby was/is a mechanic and had his own garage in the -80's. Then life happened. Later in 2006 we met. I didn even have a driving license, took it 9 years ago in my 40's. It took 1½ years. But ever since, my hubby has become more and more dependent on me, all this OBD stuff and finding out info and how to do things in those semi modern cars (from up to 2010). You really nead to know what you are doing, even when only ordering spare parts! And its always me who fix problems inside the car, trim panels and alla plastics is his nightmare :)
So, Im EVER SOOOOOO thankfull for all the help, people like You, give others! Without the Internet I wouldnt know half of anything Ive learned!
I also learned how to build a chimney, plaster (mix my own plaster, as its a house from late 1800 and made of dried clay), change windows, fix the roof.
As I didnt write any introduction of my self before :) ^^^

Back to the car:
I do have soldering equipment - but so far, have only fixed one light realy for Saab (resoldering) and my hubby's PC screen (changed couple of burned components) :) It was Eric the repair guy who showed me how.
But not sure I could fix broken traces...
