The Old 65535 - Airbag fault code

    Morning,

Think Ive just been unlucky but carrying out a full scan on a 2001 VW Beetle has caused the airbag light and a 65535 Fault.

Beetle had a lateral Acc sensor fault (01423 - Lateral Acceleration Sensor (G200)). Fitted the new sensor started the car and did a full autoscan, Set the faults clearing and after they had finished went to switch the ignition off and noticed the airbag light was on, Rescanning the car has a 65535 Fault.

Now I know we have just been unlucky but just wanted to warn you just in case the old bug has some how come back?

The bug has always existed in those airbag modules themselves. We implemented a work-around to avoid triggering it in 2004, and that work-around is still in VCDS.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.
