I don't think it matters. I did park assist retrofit to 2007 Golf Plus which never had even front parking sensors from factory. There were no guidance on which orientation the sensors need to be. There were no issues during those few years we had the car.

Official workshop guide has orientation in the installation guide for the front and rear parking sensors but I think that is mainly due to how the wiring harness is built.

Are the side sensors for the park assist in Audi flush to the bumpers or is there some kind of a sensor bracket with collar there? Could you take a picture of those from your car how they are installed?

My guess is that your side sensors have incorrect holder. Usually the PLA sensor holders are angled so that the sensor is pointing to the side. Now without angled holder your sensors are pointing a bit downwards and that most likely causes the ghost alerts and the sidewall detection etc.

Those holders should be the proper ones, they are angled so that the sensor is having a proper angle when installed.

@downtime is correct, the holders for the OEM PLA are angled as per his link. However I couldnt get those at the time and have the same holders as you. My solution was to set the OPS option in VCDS to only use the original sensors. It's a long coding option but I can't remember where. It's not hard to find though. Think it's either central convenience or instruments. You must have seen it already for the new sensors to be working with your OPS. My PLA works perfectly though.

EDIT - Sorry I didn't read your post properly.

MY PLA works fine outside and inside. All of my sensors are mounted the same way using the same brackets as you. However OPS using the new sensors was way too sensitive, picking up ghosts on the side sensors so I coded the OPS back to 8 sensors instead of 12. Have you considered the paintjob in the new sensors? The thickness of the paint can have a bearing on they perform. Are they OEM sensors or third party?

I will try to order these brackets from the carsystems.

@Silk How about the Parking Assist, is it working perfectly with these holders.. Mine sometimes quits on me in the middle of the auto parking, maybe because the OPS is activated at 360 ?

The sensors seem to be Original/OEM the front PLA sensors are Brown, Made In Germany EDIT 5Q0 919 297B,
the rear sensors are from Valeo China 34D 919 275 A (equivalent to 5Q0 919 275 B according to ETKA and my research). They already came factory painted from what i understood by the seller.

I've had really bad experiences with Chinese PLA sensors. In our Leon the Chinese sensors didn't work at all. They constantly gave an error and dropped out from the system.
Those could be your issue as well.

Were they original sensors or third party Chinese?
The front one are originals made in Germany 5Q0 919 297B, the rear ones are originals as well but made in China Valeo...But it explains a lot now, i just to find the correct brackets for PLA to get rid of the ghost detection using OPS 360 (confirmed happening with @Silk) .

I have emailed carsystems.eu to see if they can sell the brackets separately (hopefully)

Yes, the rears were original sensors but for China market.

I tried to look for some similar, the closest were the ones of a Golf 7.. it doesnt seem carsystems.eu want to sell them separately, and they dont have them on aliexpress.. I guess ill just disable the OPS 360.

On another note, if OPS 360 picks up Ghosts, it would affect the efficiency of the Park Assist either way, since it uses the same sensors to achieve the parking..do you agree ?

And maybe this is why Park Assist quits on me on the street. it's just hypothesis, but it makes sense.
Untill i find the PLA bracket for the A5 , park Assist won't work 100% as per expectations , unless it works differently

I am going to order now the PLA punch/driller from Ali Express, which size should i get the 25mm or 26mm ?

Drill it using a step drill bit, I use that for all PLA drilling.

Some updates:

When i disable OPS 360, Park Assist works 100% and it did not end prematurely, and it same spot when i reactivate OPS 360 and it detects the ghosts objects and it ends in the middle .. i don't know what is the link but i assume the system knows its limitation, therefore when is OPS 360 is active and Ghosts are detected probably Audi doesnt want to make the driver deaf from the constant heart attack beep

I ordered the special brackets from Carsystems, ill update once i receive them and install them to see if it makes any difference. I have also ordered the 2 rear sensors 5Q0 919 275 B Valeo France instead of 34D 919 275 Valeo China to see if it makes any difference.

Hi Guys, I've retrofitted the park steering assist using a kit I purchased from Kufatec. (Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or latch onto this one?) I've gotten everything installed (4 sensors, button panel, wiring) They supply a dongle to do the coding.

Initially, I had all sorts of error codes for lack of CAN bus communication in several modules. Clearing the codes solved all but two of the errors. I had an ACC error and air bag error. But, after two days of driving, the ACC and air bag error went away, on their own. (BTW, I did some research on the ACC, and found that the front sensor, on the passenger side, horizontal angle is off (prior owner bumped the right front bumper) Allowable range is -0.8 to +0.8; I'm at 1.3. I did not correct this, yet, as I don't think its related?)

Upon pressing the button on the panel, the PLA activates fine on the MMI screen, however, it does not function correctly; meaning, it does not "see" open parking spots. I activate the left or right turn signal, I drive past a dozen open spots but it does not recognize any of them. It seems after I pass a parked car, only then, does it "see" an open spot, next to the parked car. I select pull in or back in, ease off the brake, car starts to move, steering wheel turns, but I have to abort the parking sequence, since if I finish, I will surely hit the parked car it saw. In one instance, it wanted to park in an already occupied spot

I did not paint the sensors, but rather used a color match wrap to cover them. I peeled off the wrap on the passenger side sensors, thinking this is the cause of the lack of sensitivity, but still the same problem.

I had to mount the front sensors about 20 mm higher than the "+" drill location in the bumper, because the parking sensor mounting bracket would have interfered with the side reflector mounting bracket. My logic is that this should not be my issue; the car is lowered by about 50 mm, and height should not affect sensitivity

So at this point, I'm wondering if there is an adaptation that can make the sensors more sensitive? Is the problem truly the mounting location in the front? Or is something not coded correctly, or is it something else? Scan below

Thanks for the hint siLc. The 4 added sensors only give an "infinite" reading. I assume they are the ones at the bottom of the list in the picture labeled "parking aid". The car was parked in my garage, with the garage door closed. I used a large cardboard box and moved it around to the 12 sensors. The four in the front bumper, and the four in the rear bumper reacted to moving the box closer or further away from each sensor. The four added sensors did not react.

If the measuring blocks are correct (you could try searching again if anything with a similar description exists), I would try unplugging a sensor and seeing if an appropriate DTC is logged and if the sensor's measurement block displays something else then.

OK, spoiler alert . . . I got my park steering assist working!

I did as siLc suggested, and disconnected one of the sensors; passenger side rear. Fault code was thrown. Reconnected, cleared fault. Rather than disconnect the rest, I did some googling and found that if you press lightly on the sensor with your finger, and put your ear very close to the sensor, you can hear (and maybe feel) a fast ticking; that means the sensor is working. All four were working. However, the ticking from the PLA sensors was not as strong as the other eight.

I ran some more advance measurement values again with VCDS, (same as shown in my earlier comment #58) but this time with the engine running. The ticking was stronger. I put an obstacle in front of each of the sensors, and found that the reading for the front right side sensor read as front left side, and vice versa!

I double checked my connections at T73b. The Kufatec kit comes with all white wiring. Each wire is inscribed with a pin location. These are 0.35 sq mm wires (so quite thin and the inscription is even smaller!) I pinned them correctly.

The other connection point is the T8dx connector inside the left front bumper. I did not remove the bumper to double check, but I'm pretty sure I pinned 7 and 8 correctly. The only other possible explanations are I did not pin them correctly, or somewhere along the way, something was labeled incorrectly from Kufatec. I contacted them and suggested they either use different colored wires, or improve the wire identification method.

I swapped wires 50 and 51, (as it was easier to get to than removing the bumper) And now my park steering assist is working.
