G28 Speed Snsor Issue

Hi guys,

I'm having another issue s with My GTD Mk5 Golf. The car wont turn on at first key turn , feels like low battery start (full charge).
Second crank last bit longer but it turns on after 5 seconds. This behavior is constant regardless weather or not car is hot or cold.
Car has power and drives with no loss of mpg. I have replaced starter motor and G28 sensor. Both new.
Below from my scan you can see the G28 sensor error keeps repeating and it can not be cleared. After replacing G28, does timing on V belt have to be adjusted or something similar on VCDS.?

Can someone please advise on what it possibly could be . I really don;t want to replace this again on BMN engine as its extremely difficult exercise for the 3rd time.

Also could someone explain priority and frequency of this.

G28 replacement should not require any other adjustments.

If you're replaced the G28 sensor already, I hate to ask, but where did you source it?

Changed twice now, first one was the ebay Turkish version, but since I have installed VW original.
They behave same . I'm not sure about G40 sensor working in tandem with g28, if that has an issue. But surely it would be recorded by the system ?
At this stage , lots of guesswork/ ie. wires connections all checked and fine?

I'm also suspecting injector seals, possibly leaking and obstructing start? Should I be looking into servicing them . I have no loss o power or cuts while driving.
Would you say I'm looking in wrong direction here?

If the ECU keeps throwing a code for the G28 sensor, then the there's an issue with something directly related to that sensor. Could be the the sensor itself (but this seems unlikely since you've tried two of them), could be the the toothed thing that the sensor reads (flywheel), could be a wiring problem between the sensor or the ECU, or it could be the ECU itself.

no o rings, it was difficult to see , but I would say No, nothing stayed on Old sensor.

I have seen a situation multiple times now where during the crank period, an undefined condition existed that evaded logs or diagnosis stack and after changing all other suspect sensors, harness overlay, ground enhancements, terminal relays and even ECU, the ignition switch solved it and in some cases on rare days an oil PSI regulation problem can cause this code too!

Just because codes are not there don't mean a problem didn't or doesn't exist.......

I agree with Jack and wanted to add, P0321 can be the direct end result of a long-crank.

Fuel (in-tank electric or high side in this case), compression, timing or similar could be to blame. In my experience PD TDIs often have intermittent in-tank fuel pump issues. If this is easy enough to duplicate it couldn't hurt to see if the filter housing is empty and verify the proper volume of fuel is being pumped up to the front when you're sure it would be a long-crank or no-start initially. Hi Jack,
I have isolated your idea and found not to be the case. I have replaced dash console, immobilizer and key mechanism from another GT.
It does identical start. First time nothing happens. then after 5 sec it cranks.

At least I tried.

Hey Dana, I have tested both fuel pumps tank and tandem and the work perfectly. In fact that was the first thing I isolated as it did feel like engine wasn't getting fuel (priming) / or the drained battery (wouldn't turn). What I did, I installed transparent hose to engine from fuel tank filter chamber to see if there is air bubbles in mixture while flowing.... I will look into timing as soon as my new belt tension kit arrives. Keep you posted.

One thing its worth a mention , I don't always get the Error Workshop message once cranking. Mostly it just glow plug spiral icon flashing.
On all occasions after scanning , I only get G28 error code. Any thoughts?
