VW Transporter 2016 - remote retrofit for factory webasto?

My friend recently upgraded his van, bought this 2016 Transporter. It has factory installed auxiliary heater with options for timed pre-heating, but no remote control.

What would we need in order to retrofit remote control? Some hardware should be installed, I presume? Or is it possible that there already is remote control, only that remote is missing...?

Below is auto-scan with some errors too, but he tells me that everything is working as intended so we didn't go digging those...

in order to transform a factory Aux heater into a Parking heater the control module needs to be replaced, usually. it is located on the Webasto itself.

then there might be wiring and probably coding. and of course the receiver for the remote.

Maybe I was unclear, this is already a parking heater, not aux heater. It just does not have a remote to start pre-heating, so you have to either use timer or walk to car and press button to start it.

I checked ETKA but mine does not allow VIN search so please double check with a dealer before buying parts.

the remote is 3G0 963 511
the receiver is 3Q0 963 513

the receiver has 3 wires, +12V, GND and LIN bus that goes to the Webasto. buy one hour on erWin and download the necessary wiring diagram.

Additionally, is there any way to check that car doesn't already have this receiver installed...? With VCDS or by VIN? Or is it only possible by checking from car, if this receiver is physically installed or not?

Just wondering, there's always possibility that the remote fob has gone missing by some previous owner...

At least on MQB cars, the receiver is a slave module to the 0x18. Your module looks like a MQB one but no slave module most probably means no physical receiver module present.

in my Golf it should be in the trunk but I put it behind the light switch

I think that we would need receiver 3Q0 963 513, remote 3G0 963 511, wiring harness for receiver (for LIN, +12VDC, ground) and antenna for receiver. Am I forgetting something...?

before May/2016 part numbers are different but I am not sure, that's why I suggested you to check with an online, updated ETKA.

As I was checking from one online source, I found that 7N0963513B would be the receiver for 2016 7H Transporter. :confused:

EDIT: Maybe that was wrong, at least https://www.oemvwshop.com/ lists the 3Q receiver for 2016- models. 7N is for -2015 models.

the official ETKA says the parts changed from May2016. my best bet is both pre and post 05-2016 sets would work as long as you match the set.

I mean, do not buy the pre-may remote and the post-may receiver cause they would not talk to each other.

I have an extra remote that I could sell, let me check the part number, I'll let you know.

Mika_M, slightly off topic but I think the Webasto in your friends van currently does not preheat the engine (before starting) with that coding. It works only as cabin heater. To preheat also the engine using the timer (and in the future remote) you need to change coding from 4C01 to 4801 (or with remote 5801).
