Hi,

I'm checking my grandmother's Golf MK 5.

There are several problems that I know about:
1. Front wipers don't work. Ordered new motor.
2. Windows are not able to open/close. Don't know why..
3. Brake light is not working. Is it possible to test the sensor?

But it seems to be more problems as well according to VAGCOM.
It seems to be a problem with the comunication to several modules, what is the best way to troubleshoot?

I'm very thankfull for all help!

BR Jorn

Can bus, like a internet in car, but with many networks and one can gateway(router) to handle traffic.. Ie convience can, drivetrain ie.... .
Seem like some module or wire is broken so traffic cannot occur on one network.

Hi,
I have some basic knowledge regarding bus communication.

What I need are some hints for how to troubleshoot.
Is there a place where I can find info regardring CAN BUS and how to trouble shoot, diagrams etc.

Appreciate your help so far!

Your car has several CAN bus networks in it. One for the powertrain, one for the convenience systems, once for infotainment, etc. The Gateway acts as a router between them.

I understand.
How should I start to troubleshoot?
Check cable connections etc?

I have tried to find electrical diagrams for Golf MK5, so far without any luck.

Hi,

Thank you for the link!

I have investigated even more, and it seems that problem is a visit of......a cable eating mouse!! ;) ;)
I shall replace and do some soldering of cables, and hopefully I have fixed most of the problems.. :)

Sometimes I think VWAG puts rodent-attracting pheromones in their wiring harnesses. ;)

Hi Jorn, I see you joined the forum on 10-19-2014 and registered with us directly on 10-22-2014 so we need to switch your Junior Member status to Verified. After we do that you will be able to post in the Car Repair (and similar) sub-forums.

P.S. MVBs 125 and up may be helpful after repairing CAN wiring. You can use those groups in just about any control module but I would focus on address 19-CAN Gateway.
