We had some actual rain over the last couple days and the TT (which has some annoying vampire drain) wouldn't start due to low battery. Used a charger on it and it started, drove around a bit.

No interior lights (at mirror), can't open trunk or gas door, remote doesn't work, no blinking light on the door when the car is locked (manually with key), very dim BRAKE light on dash but brakes seem fine.

No codes for ABS or engine or instruments but also no alarm controller found, I swore there was one - some folks suggest the controller behind the rear window got wet but it doesn't seem it, no water in the cabin.

Suggests on what to check next?

thanks

Sounds like the 35-Central Locking module is out to lunch? But yes, Auto-Scan, please. :)

Hello Ms. Julie

Groucho-Marx-001.jpg

FYI: Bonus FOD!

The TT back then has some interesting things that can happen in rain, like filling fuel tanks with water by means of the fuel cap drain plugging & causing an ingress point.
My poor friend Art still owes me dinner from this & after pumping out all the water and saving the pump + injectors and setting the fuel sender so the gauge actually works now after the dealer did the campaign wrong! :D

Okay so how are we fixed for fuses?

Yes indeed Uwe alarm is 0x35 in this car.
Sometimes the headlight electronics 0x55 too behind the top area takes on water and stops or clutters up the K line within the controller growing a corrosion bridge/popping fuses back-feed and whatnot.

Please take them both apart for visual inspection!

Wanna show me your "registers" and pretty please post that scan & pictures of controllers? :p

Because I am suspect of the battery the car was running when this was run, auto scan worked when I picked the specific model range. I suspect the airbag code came from yesterday trying to start the car with battery low enough that date, etc all reset

I don't see anything else exciting - need to wait till later to start checking fuses...

thanks

Yep, 35-Central Locks is conspicuously absent from this scan.

Check fuses first. If all OK, you might try cold-booting the whole car. I don't have high-hopes for this, but it doesn't cost much.

Did you try to manually enter 0x35?

Did your car have the cluster changed for the fuel gauge fiasco yet?

Please also check main light in front of car for water ingress by top lock unit.

Ok, no blown fuses

It did have a cluster change but that was some time ago and it has some digi-segments which don't show until the car warms up

I can't open the top (can unlock but that's it) - can't open the trunk, gas door, or the little cubby inside.

Please also check main light in front of car for water ingress by top lock unit.

Do you mean map lights? They don't turn on :)

I'll try again to manually see if 0x35 will read, I think I saw a nice red blinking light on the vagcom during the scan

Check fuses first. If all OK, you might try cold-booting the whole car. I don't have high-hopes for this, but it doesn't cost much.

I did that the other day, removed the battery neg for about 15 secs which did allow the driver down window to close all the way.

What's odd is the brake warning light is dimly lit on the dash, feels like screwed up ground someplace...

thanks all

Ms. Julie,

Can we measure for ground terminal 31, power and terminals 15 and 30 at the Central locking ( CL ) 0x35 directly?

Please do an internal inspection of 0x35 and yeah the lights are used in the CL so not surprised that the brake light is seeing some weird back feed.

I think Uwe is right, sadly

Time to figure out how to open the trunk, etc to be able to put gas in the darn thing! etc...

Funny I just found that video, it's d@mn cramped back there with the rollbar..

Can we measure for ground terminal 31, power and terminals 15 and 30 at the Central locking ( CL ) 0x35 directly?

I put my hand back in there and the control module is damp, as are all the wires.. What a lame engineering decision

It's hard to see, tell me exactly where I should be checking power or can I just remove the thing (maybe) and test it somehow?

Edit: Thanks for the audiworld link to remove the bugger...

NP .....
Just take that thing out and disassemble its cover layers and please post some module centerfolds.
Maybe you or I fan fix it.....
Now I'm 275 so just imagine the pain it is for me, it's darn tight!
When placing this back in I recommend you install bags on all modules.
PM me your e-mail if you would like a little OTR magic.

I think I remember when you got that car. In fact, I have a fuzzy recollection that one of the camshafts broke and Audi gave you the third degree about (non-existent) mods before they honored the warranty?

Uwe - very close indeed! My car was red and the camshaft did break, a clean one, right at one lob and the car was trapped in NJ for 30 days (1 less than 31 day lemon law or some such).

They did indeed try to bend me over but in the end I got another year's warranty added and some minor cash 'adjustment' for my down time and also a POS loaner from the local enterprise in NJ (me having to get back to MA and all)

This car was my dad's, which he got shortly after I got mine since he thought mine was so cool. This one at only 49k deserves saving *I think* while mine was adopted away at a fair amount over 100k and a One Lap of America stint under it's belt.

This forum and Jack have been super helpful, thanks!
