Car has only 25000km on it and already needs basic settings on the DSG? Is something already wrong with it?

Hi. It’s a taxi and a mistake was made in drive where a driver placed his left foot on brake
And reved the engine thinking like a manual with the clutch depressed the clutches would
be disengaged it then made a clanking clunking noise which I believe would be the same
as the clanking clunking Heard in the basic transmission settings. The car drives fine it’s just
A wee whirring noise on down changeing especially on rough ground and speed humps. I think
a recalibration would sort it.

Months later it would appear that my fault finding skills in modern cars should be left to the experts. I don’t think there was anything wrong with this DSG. I have came to the conclusion that the modules in modern cars should not be touched at all, unless faulty and diagnosis required. It Seems to me that the slightest code change from factory can introduce all sorts of nasty side effects like vibrations, spinning noises and shuddering taking off in D2

I found my log in vcds that notified me off all the changes I had done. I reversed the lot and as if by magic the car started driving very robustly again. No more issues as mentioned above. a simple needle sweep or enabling fan speed display in auto mode etc, in my experience, seems to cause severe annoyances. Doesn’t stop the car driving but you will feel the difference. Only my opinion doing 100 miles plus a day.

Feel free to discuss

Scratching my head how enabling needle sweep would have such effects, and I'm not sure what you mean by "enabling fan speed display in auto mode".

It would certainly be interesting to do and undo those changes one-by-one to find out exactly which one has undesirable side effects.

Enabling fan (blower) speed display in AUTO mode

Car was spinning and vibrating again. Changed that coding back along with needle sweep as I had missed those ones restoring to factory and car drove great for the rest of my shift.

Next shift it returned.

Going to retire and stop trying to diagnose this car as it defies logic and is making a clown out of me.

Car is going in to dealers in next few days. See if they can sort it.

Will report back with their findings.

Car Back from dealers. Was in getting a radar calibration. I asked them, even offered to pay labour, to find what is wrong with this car. Not Interested if it doesn't have a fault code or a check engine light the car is fine in there logic.

No idea if its Mechanical or Electrical every change a make makes the car drive great for a few miles, I think great fixed it then next drive it starts all over again.

For the sake of my sanity I have Officially given up.

For anybody interested it looks like car sorted. Was Electrical. I entered the Canbus Gateway and deselected three check boxes. 1) deep recuperation 2) charge recommendation active and most importantly 3) Drive programme for GE Active. For some reason this last step has calmed the spinning down considerably and took vibration away. There doesn’t seem to be any negative side affects. Battery SOC still mid 70s and no change in MPG. I’ve done a few miles and car now drives really well and doesn't chop and change how it drives.

So I got thinking is there any point starting a thread on what all these checkbox codings do ? As there are more under canbus gateway with letters like MO etc. Or would we need inside info from a Boffin at VW

Thoughts?

Glad you have it sorted..

As to inside information from Boffins, we do not promote the idea that boffins acquire data that can help. However, if the boffins should come across data and pass it along, I'm sure we can put it to good use - never in original form and never without first verifying.

Seen forgot lawyers Hat. I was a desperate man Bruce. Was ready to go buy a new car. I didn’t like the idea of just unticking things on my modules without being armed with any information to what I was doing. So I took a gamble and this time it paid off. But so easily could have been a trip to the dealers with an expensive repair bill. I understand just because this has worked for me doesn’t mean it will work for the next car with similar issues.

Hence my post about these modules. Only mentioned Manufacturer as I’ve no idea how anyone outside the people who designed this system could ever know what these do even with trial and error.

Welcome to our world! Seems you understand what our team goes through every day as we try to decode the magic without releasing the mysterious gray smoke in these chippy things! Once that smoke is out, it's all over and expensive!

We like the challenges but we are persistent at checking, re-checking, getting someone to risk, and then checking again. A list like you suggest may a good thing. These days those lists that are behind the tool remain in encrypted files so that the hackers have a harder time getting the stuff for free.

^^ Bruce: I do admire your posts - they invariably add a different perspective to an otherwise very "techo" dialogue (not that you don't also do this). Anyhow, I'm always emboldened by your discourse to reply - hope you don't mind!!;)

So, without intending to demean your reference to the outstanding work of those mythical beings that work so diligently at RT's laboratories - isn't this exactly one of the purposes of forums like this?

Ive no doubt that the expensive and painstaking efforts from RT's employees (demigods, or troglodytes, I'm not sure which - perhaps both?) are the bed-rock for the success of RT's products. However, I would suspect that forums (like this) makes a contribution to the database that underpins VCDS's position in the commercial space for diagnostic cables.

Of course it's difficult to apply a comparative metric for the VCDS community's contribution, or the role of each, but to my mind, forums (and not just RT's forum) provide a "distributed intelligence" - in contrast to the centralized facility at RT's HQ. Together, information from both makes-up the whole, I hope -I think

It's interesting (at least to me) to contemplate the identical commercial drivers between VAG and cable manufacturers: VAG tries to find more arcane ways to keep their IP in-house in the same way that cable manufacturers do the same (of course, in a manner that balances consumer rights and shareholder value). But, the only value that third party diagnostic tools provide to the buyer market is if parts of VAG's IP is in the public domain.

I guess the points of difference between VAG and cable manufacturers is in the definition of which bits of the car's design should legitimately be in the public domain. There can be no doubt that the secret/public interface is complex, but this is where the community (through forums like this) can/should make a contribution.

Not many of us have the RT's facility to find answers, but there are lots of examples on the web of innovative solutions that come from applying many-minds to a problem - I reckon!!
