My transmission went into limp mode after my timing belt change. Since I disconnected the battery, I'm going to reset the transmission by doing a basic settings via VCDS:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...nsmission_(01M)

Then I read this "When the 01M transmission is installed in a vehicle using the Drive-by-Wire (DBW) throttle system, the ECM (Engine Control Module) may support a Kick-own Basic Settings as described here: Automatic Transmission Basic Settings.

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...Basic_Settings

The procedure for Kick-down Basic Settings TCM is the same as the first link for resetting 01M.

However, I'm not sure if I need to do the basic settings in the ECM in the second link.

Should I do the kick-down basic settings in ECM too? or does the TCM reset do the same thing?

Thanks!

Alex

That depends on the vehicle. Please post the Auto-Scan if possible.

So I tried the ECM method, but when I went into group 63, it said it was not available. I guess my 2001 Golf is too old, even though it's DBW.

Here is the auto-scan, just in case I did something wrong and I am supposed to be able to do the ECM kick-down basic settings:

That's perfectly normal. The ALH TDIs only supported a handful of Basic Settings in the 01-Engine module (003 for EGR and 011 for Turbo) so you would have received an error in 063.

Performing the kick-down in 02-Auto trans alone is correct for this vehicle.
