2009 Q7 TDI keyless and start button

Hi again, let's try to solve some other issues that I have, keyless entry and push start button not working, just stop button works.
As symptoms, no lock unlock working from the doors handles, start button not working, when I press the start button the small LED from remote blinking and say no key recognized. Also I can start the car without holding the brake pedal.Lock/unlock works from the remote, also replaced the remote battery.
As I saw from the scan, the two right side door sensors have some faults, I tried to get the switches from ebay, but today when I removed one door handle I saw that actually the handles have the switches incorporated, so I need the door handle completely??? Also I searched about the start button issue and some forums said its not working because of the door switches?
Thanks

Your door switches are producing faults. Check the connections / wires that may have become damaged, especially in the gator where the door opens/closes as these are notorious for breaks.

Not an expert, but noted trunk lock latch open or shorted to ground, probably same issue door locks could create, JMO.

Know on my earlier Jetta, (2000) would give me a theft warning siren occasionally.

Regarding the trunk latch, sometimes I need to press twice the button to close or to open it, and when is closing is making some weird noises, like is trying several times to close it but is closing.
For the door handles , I understand that because of them, the start engine button is not working? I can live with remote locking/unlocking doors, but I want the start button to work(keyless)
Also, on the doors, the error says one short to ground the other open circuit, any difference? Are the switches removable from the handle, or I need the whole handle? (almost $200 each)

Have you repaired the faults?? If not then you need to do this. I've given some suggestions of causes. If so please provide a new scan.

If you are confident to try and repair this yourself then do a search on this forum for JPPSG.

Thank you for your suggestion, I also asked other questions, like if the sensor switch is not individual replaceable, or I need to change the whole door handle. Also if the door issues is connected to the ignition issue.
What is the difference between the short to ground and open circuit?

What is the difference between the short to ground and open circuit?

Short circuit to ground/earth will generally blow a fuse, check fuses.

Open circuit could be broken wire, check all wiring & connectors. Even with open circuit you can still check fuses as a blown fuse will be open circuit.

It's not that simple: An open circuit (for example due to blown fuse) on the positive side of a low-side switched actuator will often show a "Short to GND" fault code.

Hmmm. But from your answers, should I understand that the fault is not from the switches but from wiring/fuses? I don't want to open the door (remove door panels just to check and then to order the parts and open the doors again, I was thinking to have the parts so I can save some labor/time.
Does it matter what side, front/rear the new handles will be?
What about the start switch/issue?

Lol this is what's called 'investigating'. Lookup JPPSG on this forum. If you don't want to search for the fault then I'd advise taking it to a garage!

Then why do we need to buy the Vcds, if we need to "investigate"??
I am waiting for other suggestions also, from others, as I have several questions posted, I already wrote them couple of times
- why the start button doesn't work and if it has anything to do with the door sensors/switches?
- is the switch/sensor in the door handle removable/replaceable or I need to replace whole door handle?
- the door handles have preassigned position, eg front right can be used also in the back left?

Why do we need razor blades to cut things when knives are in the kitchen?

123 Load lights.......

Time to RTFB and observe tracks in WD.

I knew that my last post will create some waves...:)
I am not bitching and I am not dismissing anyone, I just wanted some other opinions/suggestions, maybe someone else experienced similar issues to mine.
BTW, even now still no one replied punctually to my questions.
The good : your answer have very good links and explanations for a comprehensive analysis of car faults (can bus and load test and so)
I will try to figure it out myself whats the problem with the start button.
---
When I want help for the other issues that I have, should a open new threads or continue with this one?
In the near future will need some infos for the TPMS

Again read the RTFB and SSP's to gain knowledge on design function and what inputs or outputs are needed to make a component work or correct a fault.
Than ask questions like "hey I have X and Z here based on the RTFB and I don't understand this any ideas? or VCDS displays this in blocks and this fault and after testing X circuits I have this any ideas?"

If you want to know how something works, do your homework........

No magic answers to extract, you will work for your freedom!

Hi Nico

No offence taken. The purpose of this forum and VCDS is to save you lots and lots of money, whilst learning how to use one of the world's best tools for VAG cars. Electrical faults are sometimes notoriously difficult to trace, let alone diagnose and Jack created probably the best guidelines on the internet for diagnosing those faults. Sometimes you'll fix one fault and it will fix everything else and other times it will cause something else to happen.

What I think will help you further is to download a wiring diagram (WD) for your vehicle and search the wiki here for videos explaining how to read those diagrams. Diagram can be downloaded from erwin.

However, specifically I advised you to check the integrity of the wires that are part of the wiring loom - that is between the door and body. As you open and close the door regularly it's a common issue that one or many of those wires after a period of time may break or become damaged. If that is the cause and you repair that break/damage, it may fix your issue. If that's not the root cause then you continue with diagnosis.

These cars have several modules that are wired together like a computer network. Sometimes the software corrupts and sometimes the hardware (wires, modules, connectors, sensors, etc). It's trial and error working out and eliminating potential issues. As a community we are all here to support you.

+1

Wires breaking in door shuts (including trunk and tailgate) is very common and always a place to check if there are fault codes related to door components.

NICO, understand the frustration, but VAG is just a scanner, but from what I have seen one of the most powerful of any in the field, and directs you in the area of error like no other.

Now that said I don't wrench on VW daily like some of the players but own 2.

Will tell you this,,,,,,,on any car haveing issues with door latches and trunk in many cases it interprets this as a theft, and your SOL.

You have 3 glaring faults all involving what ECM, might interpret as I integrity issue, that is why we bought a VAG.

There is no easy way but pull the door panel and see if power, ground or how ever this info is transferred, hey I don't know might be Can or LIN bus, probably not but need to get to the latch to see. Can look round at kick panel and see if power and ground there, then go upstream and find it, my guess bad door locks..,personally I'd pull the door panel of one or the other for starters.

Free advice, if so buy OEM as ECM, will not like it. Might function but will flag it.

Good luck LARIMORE

Today I removed one door panel and also looked a bit at the wiring in both door wiring loom and seems they don't have any visible damages...
Another question, I cannot find where the battery energy management shows in my scan? What am I missing?
