hi, new user
had unregistered lite for a while, works well, reads codes and blocks up to about block 20

i'm chasing a hot start issue, which may be due to a flakey cam sensor. (after standing for 10 minutes after being fully up to temperature, it has a long crank, when cold it fires up almost instantly, its quite repeatable)

I bought a registered version to look at the crank and cam signals when its doing the long crank thing, these are held in block 50 of full VCDS, there are a few threads on tdiclub showing VCDS screen shots

but I cannot display block 50, I get a message saying unable to display,
any idea how I can look at the crank and cam speeds?
vehicle is 2002 Audi A3, 1.9TDI, with PD engine, AZS I believe, 130 hp

thanks in advance

So what makes you think that this ECU should have an MVB Group 050?

i have seen threads in other forums where users with vcds have been looking at block 50 to see the crank and cam speeds, on similar engines
/m

"Similar Engines" doesn't mean much.

Got a link to such a thread?

sorry for the late response

the thread I was looking at was referencing a BEW engine, but from 2003. although this is "similar" in that its a PD engine and this wicki puts them as the same general type (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_diesel_engines), it is unlikely that thy will have the same MVB's, as the BEW seems to be a good few years later than the AZS.

is there a list of available MVB's for each engine?

I think I may have found the issue as I managed to catch one of the long crank events whilst logging, showed up no engine speed in MVB 01, but there was an engine speed registering when it was cold.

Right, and built to a totally different regulatory standard.

What's in a label file such as the one VCDS is using for your engine (038-906-019-ASZ.LBL) is generally everything that VW had documented for that engine, plus possibly some additional info that users have documented.

thanks Uwe
I think I may have been misdirected on the diagnosis

when cranking, the engine speed was zero because the comms to the ecu stopped during the crank time amd started again when the cranking stopped.

I just just ran a ttest where I unplugged the trigger wire to the starter, put the key in crank position and coms are ok i.e. the ecu was receiving power when key was in crank

this suggests a voltage drop during the crank is doing something to the ecu, have you seen this before?

just off to check power and grounds to the ecu
