Does anyone have any idea how an engine management light could be turned off/disabled? The light is not on during the initial engine start up check and confirmed as not working via VCDS output check. Im trying to get it turned back on for the customer and I flashed another ECU into his car but this didnt fix the problem, so Im guessing its been turned off via the instruments?

I was thinking that too. Ive been looking on Ebay and its scary the amount of dodgy software you can buy. Vag DTC delete - where you can pick what faults you have and delete them from the Ecu. That will make diagnosis easy, not.

That only works if one also has a means of reading and writing flash data to the ECU.

Remove dash, open housing and use tool called ‘eyes’.
Yep. Could be something as simple as a piece of black electrical tape.

How about a long thin drill bit. Go right thru the plastic cover.
Good Luck

I would think pulling the cluster and examining it to see if it was tampered with would be a start.
I have see the led burn out for turn signal indicator. If that is the case new cluster is needed.
I do not think cutting a single wire would do it? You need to examine it.

I was joking about the drill bit but have actually see it done before.

Good luck

I was thinking more along the lines of dodgy software like the VAG DTC delete available. Im guessing as no one has commented and also nothing has appeared on google or ebay then its not something thats available.

Remove dash, open housing and use tool called ‘eyes’.

Its a customers car, he doesnt want the dash removed. But thanks for your `helpful` reply.

I used MPPS

Ill try and talk the customer into letting me remove it, as it would be interesting to see what happened. As its the suggestion most people are making Id say its probably whats been done.

How are You supposed to fix the car if customer doesn't want his/hers car fixed?

Explain to customer that only way to really fix is to check before. - This applies mostly to everything.

My apologies, I should have added it came in because it was losing power and overboosting. I started another thread on this. It didnt come in because the light wasnt on.

I would just like to point out that the diagnostic stack should have or has the ability as does the ECU and cluster to pend a DTC for the MIL being non functional by OBD monitoring and if it isn't displaying such a code that the car is FOD!

You can thank me later....... You are the WINNER & prizes are taking place with distribution in Miami FL!
