    Problem with Optical Bus Diags - VCDS 18.9.0 - MY2016 A8 - UK market ...

Edited to add VCDS interface used.

Just [Re]run the Optical Bus Scan against my recently acquired A8 D4 2016 with my Hex+CAN USB interface. As before, it almost finishes [green bar almost at the end] when I get the Windows 'box' saying:

"Please Upgrade to a current Ross Tech Interface - Only Current Generation interfaces support this feature"

--> A screenshot is available but not attached as I'm apparently not allowed to post attachments according to my 'posting permissions'.

I then get the 'optical devices' screen with the electrical and optical fields marked with "???"

    Hi Julian,

For pictures use an external hosting site, such as https://imgur.com/upload, then add the image link between [IMG][/IMG] tags in the post.

    Congratulations on the new car!

    Hi Julian,

In this instance that's an entirely new feature that made it to Beta less than a month ago. It requires a current interface such as the HEX-V2 -or- HEX-NET.

Don't get me wrong, Optical Bus Diag has been in VCDS for years but it only worked on traditional CAN protocol 19-CAN Gateway systems until recently. It was never fully functional on UDS protocol 19-CAN GW modules until the last Beta.

Ah; so you're saying that the HEX+CAN interface never supported the newer type Gateway's? Didn't realise that.

But why does it work so far - the green bar is about 95% done - and then fail in that manner?

It's not that the HEX+CAN didn't support those newer Gateways, it's that VCDS didn't support the Optical Bus Diagnostics function on those newer Gateways.

I would imagine there's something going on at that point that the HEX+CAN can't handle.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.
