Remove 0x34 manifold block and soak with cleaners & oils, then install with fresh working air pump and trace the leak if needed.

Verify power and grounds + relay and check the CAN for communication disruption, ......clear codes first and default.

Verify level sensors on control arms and if needed trick to get compressor to stop overheat condition by lifting car & removing load from suspension and compressor work.

Excuse my ignorance. What is 0x34 manifold block?

Excuse my ignorance. What is 0x34 manifold block?

0x34 is the control module address, which is the air suspension. Therefore the manifold block.

Can anyone say where this unit fits? I have seen where other models have it in front wheel well (towards firewall). Is it same for Phaeton.

Man you better start reading the RTFB............

:p

Use the tone generator to sniff it if that hidden to you, further using WD and trace the location by turning the car into a big antenna

Thanks all for helping me to get my Phaeton back on the road. Been driving her again for a week now. The "Running Gear" fault disappeared after I changed relay 214. The front of car lifted after driving around the block a few times. Front right still lowers a bit after its been parked for approx. 8 hours plus, but I guess that could be due to leak as reported by VCDS. Haven't been able to locate leak yet though. I had this issue before but it went after I performed an adaption on controller 34. Another adaption is definitely needed now as the rear stands much higher than it suppose to be, while the front sits below normal. The problem is, the controller still refuses to accept security code (31564) which I have successfully used before. Below is my current VCDS scan.

I am still working to get back to pre KESSY Damage state and better This forum has been of invaluable help. Thanks again guys

I am also finding the Phaeton Self-study program and Elsa workshop manual to be very helpful.

Troubleshooting advice for my Touareg, the SUV version of your Phaeton, suggests painting the network of tubes exiting the compressor manifold with soapy water to show bubbles. This is under the car below the right front passenger seat.

The front of car lifted after driving around the block a few times. Front right still lowers a bit after its been parked for approx. 8 hours plus, but I guess that could be due to leak as reported by VCDS. Haven't been able to locate leak yet though.
Yeah that's going to be a mild leak somewhere.

You have the exact same level control module as my 2006 W12. That code really ought to work.

Code:
Address 34: Level Control Labels: 3D0-907-553-V2.clb
   Part No: 3D0 907 553 C
   Component: LUFTFDR.-CDC- 3C3V0 1122
   Coding: 0007722
   Shop #: WSC 28868 001 104857
   VCID: 270B070643A4218FFFF-8072

4 Faults Found:
00219 - Loading Level Active
            000 - -
01583 - Leak in System Detected
            000 - -
01400 - Suspension Level Control
            002 - Lower Limit Exceeded
01577 - Turn-Off due to Over-Temp
            001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent

You're in loading/transport mode. I bet you need to lay the transport mode disable code on it before it's willing to go through level calibration. Transport mode may also interfere with post-shutdown level maintenance. IIRC, the Phaeton should periodically check and adjust its level for several hours (possibly a day?) after shutdown, but the transport and jack modes will probably disable that. This won't fix your leak either, but it may help a little.

Thanks. The compressor/manifold for my Phaeton sits under the spare wheel well.

Thanks Jyoung.

As soon as I entered transport mode deactivation code, the car went into "lowering ride height" mode, and the rear of car immediately lowered.

The security code (31564) was also accepted by controller. However, when I attempted adaption, it is again requesting security code before channel 01 is even ready for accepting height value.

I will drive her around for a day or two then attempt adaption again if required. Currently the right side of vehicle sits about 10mm lower than left at both front and rear. Left side seem to have correct height for coding 0005521.

Still wondering why transport mode was not disabled since I have been driving this car regularly over 100km/h.

Will update thread in a few days.

I have seen just a battery reset or voltage discrepancy cause a car to enter transport mode.

That's a good step forward!

What faults are currently stored in address 34? By chance did you try clearing fault codes? It may also refuse to adapt if that leak detected fault is stored, for example. I'd park the car on a level surface, clear codes in 34, and then reattempt calibration. If the car can't raise the one side enough to get in calibration range, you might try helping it along with a jack.

Nothing we do with VCDS is going to fix a leak, we're just trying to make it work as normally as possible except for that leak. FYI, it's not unknown for the bags in the air dampers in these cars to leak or fail. There are several companies that will take your damper, rebuild it, and send it back.

I will drive her around for a day or two then attempt adaption again if required. Currently the right side of vehicle sits about 10mm lower than left at both front and rear. Left side seem to have correct height for coding 0005521.
I take it you've changed coding recently, because your last Auto-Scan was 07722 (NAR ride height). And if your right side is 10mm below 05521 (Euro ride height) that's pretty low. That's about where it would sit in the automatic high-speed stability mode that you (the driver) can't choose manually.

Still wondering why transport mode was not disabled since I have been driving this car regularly over 100km/h.
That coding comment dates back to the original label file authored back in MY2004 by Michael Moore, PanEuropean of VWVortex fame. The rev-C controllers do behave a little different than the rev-A/rev-B controllers in some ways. It wouldn't shock me if transport mode doesn't behave in accordance with the old comment/behavior.

The change was a somewhat infamous vendor change, wherein ALL the original hardware for all 2004s and most (I think) 2005s were abruptly superseded to new and incompatible parts. If an owner had to replace a single air damper, they had to replace all four AND the controller. Here in the US, Volkswagen would eat the extra cost even if the car wasn't under warranty, I think due to regulations requiring 10-year parts availability.

Thanks again for very informative post.

The original code for module was 05521, I had changed it to 07722 when it refused to accept the security pin. With the success I had after your previous post, I reverted to 05521. This is after I was unable to perform adaption and received a fault on the module saying something like "incorrect or no basic setting or adaption" ( which I thought I saved but didn't). Will perform scan again in the morning.

Below is fault code I had yesterday morning.

Address 34: Level Control Labels: 3D0-907-553-V2.clb
Control Module Part Number: 3D0 907 553 C
Component and/or Version: LUFTFDR.-CDC- 3C3V0 1122
Software Coding: 0005521
Work Shop Code: WSC 28868 001 104857
VCID: 270B070643A4218FFFF-8072
1 Fault Found:

01437 - Control Position not Learned
005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation

After performing adaption and driving for about 10 miles, the below fault codes appeared.

Address 34: Level Control Labels: 3D0-907-553-V2.clb
Control Module Part Number: 3D0 907 553 C
Component and/or Version: LUFTFDR.-CDC- 3C3V0 1122
Software Coding: 0005521
Work Shop Code: WSC 28868 001 104857
VCID: 270B070643A4218FFFF-8072
3 Faults Found:

01583 - Leak in System Detected
000 - - - Intermittent
01400 - Suspension Level Control
002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
01577 - Turn-Off due to Over-Temp
001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent

The ride height now looks a lot better. The front suspension did not lower overnight - at least not visibly. I will continue to monitor for leaks as repair as necessary.

Thanks a lot for all the assistance received. I still have a lot to learn but I do believe I now know more about this car than the used car dealer that imported it from Singapore, and maybe even more than the local VW/Audi dealer.

Just as observation - I got a "bending light not available (AFS)" error on my MDF display just about the time I had the "no adaptation" controller 34 error. This AFS error disappeared after ride height adaption.

Thanks again guys.

Run car suspension all the way up and all the way down.......... then back up again.

Do this with engine running!

This means the mechanical basic settings must be reset and checked on the control arms due to being out of range.

Thanks Jack.

Is there a documented procedure for this?
