I have a 2015 VW Jetta Sport 1.8T. Battery took a . Got a new battery and they said I'd have to reprogram it. I said I had a programmer (VagCom), no big deal. Brought it home, had Traction control and Steering Column lock light on. Then I started researching and ross tech had a video about the BEM code. Looked up a video from ross tech and they said that I can only use an OE battery. Tried tried tried to find out why these lights were on then concluded to return new battery and get old battery back. I took a picture of the top of the old battery below.
Today, I spoke to VW and they said that I can use an aftermarket battery, as long as I trust the brand, which was duralast. I inquired about the BEM code and the guy asked the technician and he had no idea what he was talking about.
