Now with the SA code accepted, I was able to change two more bytes - now my coding is 743B80F5092400FC2E0E01E8902200413D0000. Only two bytes are different to Golf coding - I guess they are the vehicle type bytes.

I'll try to summarize what we were able to do today. Earlier I'd been comparing Scirocco coding to 2011 Golf R coding. Today we plugged in 2010 Golf R instrument cluster and ABS controller. It's the donor car that the gearbox and rear axle with Haldex were taken to Scirocco. We were able to retrieve the coding from 2010 Golf R. I think it's also worth mentioning that it's got different ABS control module part no (1K0 907 379 AJ vs 1K0 907 379 BE). 2011 Golf R has the same as Scirocco (1K0 907 379 BE).

Here are all the codes.
Code:
00010203040506070809101112131415161718 Byte no.
743B80F5492400FC2E0E01E8922200413D0800 2011 Scirocco ABS original coding
143B800D092800FC280C01E5901900413D0000 2010 Golf R ABS original coding
143B800D092B0002281001EC901C00413D0000 2011 Golf R ABS original coding

Other than the VIN bytes (05, 07, 09, 11, 13), both MY 2010 and 2011 Golf R's have the same coding.

Then we tried if we're able to recode Golf R ABS controller. When we had Scirocco cluster connected, we were able to code with Scirocco coding, and when we had Golf cluster connected, we were able to recode with Golf coding. So it was quite obvious cluster is affects. We then started to test changing bytes that are different in Golf and Scirocco coding and were able to change couple of bytes (04, 12 and 17 - last one of which we had been able to change already earlier) but not all. Bytes 00, 03 and 08 are still different than in Golf.

We switched back to Scirocco ABS controller. Tried the same coding that we were just able to code with Golf ABS controller and Scirocco cluster, without succeeding. We then got a hint to try the security access code 11908 that we had tried earlier without success, but for some reason now it was working. That seemed to remove all the VIN bytes and two other bytes from the coding:

743B80F5492400FC2E0E01E8922200413D0800 -> 748049002E019200413D0800

Code:
00010203040506070809101112131415161718 Byte no.
743B80F5492400FC2E0E01E8922200413D0800 2011 Scirocco ABS original coding (VIN WVWZZZ13ZBV022349)
74 80 49 00 2E 01 92 00413D0800 Scirocco ABS coding after SA code 11908
  3B F5 24 FC 0E E8 22 Bytes that were excluded with SA code

After the SA code was accepted we were able to change the same ABS coding bytes that we were able to change to the Golf ABS controller without SA. Still, we can't change the three remaining different bytes. When we try to recode, we get more fault codes telling chassis type is incorrect. And that's what we're trying to change, bytes 00, 03 and 08. Those seem to be the bytes that define the chassis type.

This is where we are now. Three bytes are different than from the original Golf R coding. Based on multiple forum posts they are all related to chassis type. Bytes 00 and 08 are the same but bits in reverse order. 14 in byte 00 means it's Golf, 74 it's Scirocco. Same thing in byte 03, 0D equals Golf VI and F5 equals Scirocco. Because it's not accepting the coding, it must mean it's comparing to chassis type information it's receiving from CAN. With Golf cluster we're able to change those bytes so probably the chassis type is coming from the instruments cluster. Now we'd need to figure out if the chassis type can be modified in cluster. If not, I guess then we need to start thinking if we can fit Golf cluster on Scirocco... but that would mean problems with Immo. I don't have the Golf ECU or keys anymore...

3 hours by car, North-West.

I'll need to talk with some friends and decide what to do. And check how I can mate Golf and Scirocco clusters. It seems they could be split and have Scirocco face on Golf cluster. Screws to dashboard are on same location.

Aah you have the white cluster. I thought red one.
Nope i don't have tools for this. :(

But if your Sciro clusters are the same type then just swap internal PCB.

Both Scirocco R and Golf R clusters look quite the same, just the face is different. It might be easier to use Golf R cluster and get the Immo worked out rather than modify the vehicle type information in Scirocco cluster?

It's all good now! I switched the Golf cluster PCB to Scirocco cluster and took the ECU from the same car. Now ABS accepted Golf coding and all fault codes are gone!

Thanks for everyone who tried to help me. I learned a lot during this process... perhaps one day I'm brave enough (and have enough time) to dive in to the world of flash editing :)

Does anyone know if there's another AWD Scirocco R anywhere in the world?

That should be most of it.

I'm not familiar with Leon Cupra mk2 trunk floor, but I believe you may need to do some work with it to fit the rear axle.

Also, I had a lot of issues to get the ESP function - my original 2wd scirocco cluster did not work with 4wd Golf one - I had to use the Golf cluster internals. Someone with some firmware modifying skills can probably get it working.

Hello,

to everyone doing the same or similar AWD swap-in setup: there has been a solution developed (and already successfully implemented on a couple of retrofits) in order to make all the components (Instrument cluster, ABS module, etc) work correctly. There will be no fault codes stored, the mileage shown on the cluster will be the original one, ABS module will have correct coding, no "Check Powertrain" fault and of course ESP will be fully and correctly working.

In order for the above to be accomplished, the original Instruments cluster and ABS module can be used - no need to remove or swap these components. This is being done using VCDS interface.

More details in Private Message but please write only after you have set everything else up.

Thank you.

Thanks for any reply , i have started now.... to install FIX all parts.

i have installed ABS 4wd gen2 from audi s3 + yaw sensor 4wd( under the passenger seat ) , i have selected AWD option in Engine , AWD now status ok and properly coded ( i can see all haldex value example oil temp ecc.. ) at the moment i haven't engine installed and i can't finish power steering procedure to see steering angle on AWD , ABS , and 044 .( i can see only steering speed in second,Torque on steering ecc.... missing only degree ° error stored: G85 frame freeze 00778 and 02546 steering n./init)

Also i have installed the second sender lever from the 4wd tank..... but i my J285 instrument cluster i can't selected channel 29/31 only channel 30. in the menu i can't selected 4wd trasmission.
If i go in ADV. meas. block. i can see that OHM from 2nd line sender Work... because when i disconnet go to 500 ohm ( connection is Ok) and if i disconnet the 1st line sender i have an error and no fuel indication.

i need coding j285 instrument cluster to achieve 2nd lever sender.
Can you help me? in my leon 2wd i haven't the same menu of any 4wd car!

Thanks

I had a problem to weld the Quattro tank with the Scirocco tank neck but I did it finally. But, I still have a problem with the ABS ESP similar to yours and I don’t have the Golf R cluster. Also, I have Scirocco 3D cluster waiting to be installed.
Moreover, I can’t select the AWD option in the ECU, maybe I need the ECU access code.
This is the last things pending.
