Will a dead key fob stop the car from starting?

My wife has our B8 Audi A4 several hours away, and the car won't start, won't crank, nothing. When the key is pushed in to turn on the ignition, no lights come on except a parking brake light, which turns off after a few minutes, the rear interior lights are on, and one brake light is on. Random. I can't pull a scan because I'm not there, but any thoughts?

I've had issues with the door locks and 12v sockets not powering, and have attributed those to the J393 Control Module possibly going bad. Could that thing cause the no start and funky light situation I listed above?

If it won't start, it won't start - so she'll have to get recovered. Obviously without a scan, as you've mentioned, we're snookered.

One thing I can add, is what do you mean by a dead key fob? Do you mean a dead battery within the fob? The battery is not required to release the immobiliser when starting from the receptacle. Is the vehicle battery flat? It sounds like something awry with the BCM2 but that's no more than speculation at this time.

Battery has 12.6v so I’ve eliminated that. I did mean the key fob battery, but the funky electronical issues eliminate that. On to bigger things...

It is, Michel. The BCM2 does indeed have both 46-Central Convenience and 05-Access/Start Authorisation together in the same physical box. :)

No, a dead key-fob battery should not prevent the car from starting if the key is inserted in the lock, or on those cars that lack such a lock, is held of against the receptor/antenna pad that is somewhere on the dash.

A dead key fob is something different than a key fob with a dead battery. Just to be sure we're not mixing stuff up.

Update: J393 failed. I had to have it replaced/recoded which brought everything back. Actually, the source of the problem was blocked sunroof drains, which flooded that rear fuse/J393 area. That was a spendy fix. Apparently the drains were cleared but it's raining out today and can't help but thing what might be happening.
