Lane assist and high beam assist are totally different things than ACC, ACC needs front mounted radar sensor.

Correct, I was just pointing out that the new vehicles were equipped with the hardware and just required coding changes to activate them.

Yes, some features. But the problem with the new VAG vehicles is that even you have the hardware the functions cannot be enabled as they’re SWaP functions. Means only factory is able to enable them and only if you’ve bought the feature initially.

Some features like lane assist and high beam assist can be enabled if the hw is suitable. But ACC, Carplay etc. Not.

I have had to activate carplay, trailer hitch, navigation, and other features with the necessary activation codes like you are referring to but I wasn't sure if that was necessary for ACC since it is a similar drivers assistance feature like lane assist that did not require it on my vehicles, which are new VAG vehicles as well.

I guess the easiest way to find out would be if I run into an A3 with ACC, I can run the erase activations test plan and then reactivate and it will give me the full list of everything that requires an FeC.

^ And your point to prove with that would be what?

FeC is required for :

ACC
Navigation both low and high models, both have different FeC
Bluetooth
Mirrorlink
Voice control
Drive mode selection

That’s pretty much it. Mirrorlink and drive mode you can buy as an aftermarket installation, others no. And no way to ”code” them locally or even online.

There’s lot’s of websites which already have a comprehensive list of FeC features.

If you clear the activations, enabling them requires dealer visit.

wuplur: " run into an A3 with ACC"? No offense intended, but the suggestion sounds a tad over-the-top (and more than a bit expensive) just to get the data!! Anyhow, notwithstanding downtime's sage response (which Is usually correct in my experience), HERE is a copy of all the admaps from an A3 with ACC (albeit it's from Australia- not from the land of the free)

Good luck

I should have mentioned it before but I work in the service department at the dealer so it wouldn’t cost me anything but time. No, I haven’t run into one but honestly forgot to look and it’s a pretty rare feature around here.

Is it possible to buy a used LRR radar (e.g., from a wrecked car (not front)) and replace the factory fitted MRR (front assist) and get the ACC going (if, of course, all the other modules meet the requirements) ?
Is the used radar married to the VIN of the vehicle it's taken from or does this only trigger CP?

a module which has CP of course has the VIN of the donor car inside, that is how CP works. it is during the CP clearing procedure that the module will receive the VIN of the new car it's being matched to.

darkchina: hi. I do like learning more about CP operation - thank you for the post!

Your explanation is interesting because it (slightly) challenges my understanding of the FAZIT process for clearing the DTC. Whilst I don't dispute your description regarding writing the VIN onto the retro-fitted module, I had understood that there was also a process whereby the "identity" (defined somehow?) of the new module is written back onto the database that the CP master uses for the challenge-response activity (@ ignition switch-on).

So- in a sense, I had understood that the new unit's identity also is "registered" in the car's DNA and this is why if the old module is re-installed after the FAZIT process, a CP error will occur (despite the fact that it contains the car's VIN) - I think.

Am i mistaken in my understanding (entirely likely)?

Don

Don, afaik you’re absolutely correct.

And for the poster asking about replacing MRR with LRR radar. Naturally VW has thought of this as well since they don’t share the same feature codes. So LRR won’t work even you will get the CP removed.

This is an old thread but it can surely be done. I have a Q3 F3, and there is an ACC retrofit on kufatec for it.Either way, I have bought a VAS 5054a dongle, a new steering column switch (that includes ACC and not just cruise control), installed it just today.

Waiting on someone tomowrrow to connect via the VAS tool and enable it got way less than guys at kufatec since they also send you the sensor, which is already on the car (since it has presense and all that stuff).

^ Yes, old thread and things have evolved quite a lot since. Even pACC is possible to retrofit.
