Couple of questions (new user by the way) from the outset. Using 7H for the scan takes an inordinate amount of time (like 5 mins or so+) is that normal? 7H says for vans up to 2010 and mine is a 2013 but is also a 7H according to VIN.
Second question relates to the actual problem.
VW dealership had the van recently and to fix a minor problem they "de-coded everything" and "started again" according to the tech there. Which is cool, however, as I had switched the head unit from the standard RNS 315 to the improved Kenwood DNX 525 DAB unit (standard in the Sportline model in the UK) and the RNS 315 wasn't actually IN the vehicle when they recoded everything I have lost the facility I had before of viewing the reversing sensors on the screen. More importantly, the reversing sensors no longer mute the audio of either of the head units either, so unless you remember to turn down the volume to the bare minimum, you can't even make out the tiny beep that is provided by the OE speaker under the dash.
I have tried reinstalling the old head unit and auto scanning and making sure the "park assist" is enabled but am now at a loss as to what to try to get it to work.

The aftermarket unit probably isn't diagnostic-capable, so if you've swapped it back in, having 37 and 56 missing from the scan would be normal. We could code them out of the car entirely, but I'm not sure if that would interfere with the rest of its CAN integrations like steering-wheel controls and park assist, so let's take one thing at a time.
