This mainly goes out to anybody with a MKIV R32 turbo, but all help is truly appreciated.

What’s happening  :
I have a MKIV R32 with about 1k, trouble free miles on the turbo setup.
About two weeks ago I was cruising around 40-45 in 3rd gear and the traction control light turned on. The car started stuttering as if it wasn’t getting fuel, then the EPC light came on. I pulled over and let the car idle. It was super rough, vacuum was bouncing between 10 and 20, idle RPMs were fluctuating and Air/Fuel was in the 20s. I turned the car off, let it sit for about 30 seconds, turned it back on, and it was back to 100% normal.
Next time I drove the car it was fine. The time after that, it did the same thing cruising down the highway at about 60. I was at about 10% throttle and after about 20 seconds, it went back to normal. Turned it off while cruising, and back on, and again it ran perfect. It’s been doing this completely randomly for the past 100 miles or so.

Codes I’m getting:
First time I ran VCDS
16891 – Idle Control System RPM
P0507 – 001 – Higher than expected – Intermittent

16486 – Mass Air Flow Sensor
P0102 – 002 – Signal too Low – Intermittent

17796 – Control Module Malfunction – DBW Throttle Monitoring
P1388 – 008 – Implausible Signal – Intermittent
(this one came up twice)

Address 03: ABS
01314 – Engine Control Module
013 – Check DTC Memory – Intermittent

Address 08: Auto HVAC
01274 – Air Flow Positioning Motor (v71)
37-10 Faulty - Intermittent

Address 17: Instruments Label
01177 – Engine Control Unit
64-10 Not Currently Testable – Intermittent
(this one came up twice)

Second time I ran VCDS

17796 – Control Module Malfunction – DBW Throttle Monitoring
P1388 – 008 – Implausible Signal – Intermittent
(this one came up twice)

Address 03: ABS
01314 – Engine Control Module
013 – Check DTC Memory – Intermittent

Address 08: Auto HVAC
01274 – Air Flow Positioning Motor (v71)
37-10 Faulty - Intermittent

Address 17: Instruments Label
01177 – Engine Control Unit
64-10 Not Currently Testable – Intermittent
(this one came up twice)

What I’ve done:
I cleared all faults, performed a throttle body adaption, and took it for a ride. Ran great for about 5 miles, then did then same thing again. It does seem to happen at any specific time at all. Doesn’t matter if the engine is hot or cold from what I can tell. Doesn’t matter if it’s under load or idling either.

So, after speaking with Jeff at Ross Tech, he advised me to check my O2 sensors and make sure nothing was burn, frayed, melted, or in any other way damaged and they aren’t. I put her up on a lift, followed every wire and they are all in excellent shape. I check MAF connections and vacuum lines all over and everything seems to be intact and great.

What should I do?:
Has anybody else experienced anything like this? Can has been running literally issue free since the build and I have done nothing different. I’m stumped.

Some specs for reference:
UM Stage 2 software with launch control and NLS
UM Haldex performance flash

Why screen-shots instead of text?

What are the fuel trims after a long drive and before clearing?
Good Luck

I wondered that Uwe.

Post the full Autoscan in between CODE tags [CODE] Full AutoScan [/CODE] as it takes up less room.

Screen grabs because I'm using VCDS mobile on my iPhone and that's how I captured the Autoscan. Can someone guide me and let me know the better way to post them up? I'll gladly do it that way.

I plan on taking the car for a cruise tonight and plan on running an Autoscan before I head out and after I return. Any particulars I should look for? How do I check the fuel trims, vwtech?

Thanks for replying and helping out all.

When the Auto-Scan completes, save the file -- it will be plain text. You can then use [View Saved Files] from the main menu. If you synch 'em to the cloud, they're accessible to from pretty much anywhere, as plain text.

Ran Autoscan before I took the car out for about a 12 mile drive tonight. Cruised casually, got on it a few times, downshifted, drove all types of different ways to see if I would give me any issues and nothing. Ran perfect. We'll see when it happens again.

The scan I ran before heading out is pasted below. There are some new codes in there that seem super odd to me. See below:

Code:

Indeed, those ARE odd. If your ECU were stock, I'd say there's something broken in VCDS-Mobile. But the fact that your ECU claims "Component: United.R32.174 G …C*" make me less confident that's the case.

What happens if you clear the codes?

I bet the OXS heaters are still bad inside the OXS sensor itself........... from poor strain relief or they just suck OEM .........that you can't see...........

The OXS heaters do not come on immediately after a clear of DTC's or during start up..........takes a few minutes while the ECU pulses the duty cycle on/off bringing them up.

It is also possible that damage has already been done to the controller directly and the result is the EPC driver error.
You could also have a bad wire from EPC to ECU......It has happened or even bad EPC if dirty or boost conflicts from poor diverter settings since the R32 never had an N249 for Turbo.

Note......for R32 guys.....junk yard wars.
Believe it or not I have had great luck using the ME7.1.1 2.7T ecu adapted with tuning/rescaled to the R32 turbo charged and it uses the diverter.........and a real N75.
It really is better then all these cobbed setups.......with stupid deletes............. I bet this tune is masking DTC's.
That's what happens when you take it to stage JEW..........you go EDC...:p

Okay back to the fun.......

The main feed consumers bus is fed with a 10 amp fuse via WD.
It doesn't blow because the draw isn't enough for the heated circuits to wipe the fuse............ so it blows the ECU board, while trying to complete the ground pulsing the heaters being switched.

Immediately change the OXS sensors...........all of them and add appropriate fuses determining the draw with a meter back to the controller.
You may need an ecu and I can help with that if needed/interested.......... we have brand new units and includes the data transfer to save the tune.

Use metal foil tape to protect and add strain relief to the new OXS sensors.

Thanks for all this in, Jack.
I'm going to check to see if it's the brake light switch by checking to see if I have cruise control.

If that doesn't work and new 02s don't do the trick, I may need to take you up on the ECU swap.

Will check back in soon. Fingers crossed.

Use this brake light switch instead.

1J0-945-511A

This one is reusable early one which was never under campaign and didn't fail...........at least with the frequency of the set it and forget it BS, get stuck in park feature, watch it not work and battery die, or rear end collision because the guy behind you had no idea you were on the pedal.......

Oh hell........... keep using the same dumb new design each campaign...........seems reasonable right?
