Hello,

I've tried to use my cable to read the engine module - 01 so I can log requested vs actual boost but I can't get the controller to respond. I do have a genuine cable purchased through the site. HEX-V2, H11-001984 and am using the most up to date version of VCDS. I even uninstalled and reinstalled VCDS. I am running it on Windows 7 on my Mac through Bootcamp. Has anyone else experienced any problems with this?

What kind of car are you plugged into?

Can you click [options] then [test] in VCDS and post the results?

It could not hurt to post an Auto-Scan from the car in question. Even if you can't connect to the ECU, there may be clues why in other modules.

What happens if you try generic OBD-II?

Is this car an manual trans? Has the ECU been "tuned" or otherwise modded?

The car is tuned. I’m stage 3 with a big turbo and a custom tune.

I don’t know what you mean by using generic OBD-II.

On the first screen in VCDS, toward the lower left, there's a button labelled [OBD-II].

For whatever reason unknown to me I was able to get into that controller this morning. Do you want a log of anything for future troubleshooting?

Well, nevermind. Did it again. I was able to log my boost this morning but changed a spring on my diverter valve and went to do it again and the same controller error came up. I'm contemplating just getting a Windows based laptop. Cheap and easy one.

What Mac are you using? I had a Macbook Air for a while (bought as a travel laptop before anyone else had anything even remotely comparable) that had Windows 7 on it via Bootcamp and I never had any problems running VCDS on it.

I really wonder if this isn't an issue with your car rather than your computer.

It very likely is but I don’t know what could be causing the problem. I’ve cleared any faults it may have had.

Also, I can access the OBD function that you asked about.

I’m fairly certain the tuner didn’t lock out the ECU but I guess I could be wrong. Very mind boggling to me.

Ok. So I think I've figured out a way to get working every time. I have to go into the OBD II function and clear all DTCs. Close VCDS. Then cycle the power to the car (ign off/on) and open VCDS and go straight to the controller (Engine - 01). Although this works it doesn't explain why I have to clear the codes every time.

I can't explain it either, although it points to your ECU rather than your computer.

If I were to speculate, my money would be on the tune in the ECU being wonky.

Updating this thread. VFIZ was causing some communication issue of some sort. I simply reset VFIZ in the settings and now I can access my ECU controllers just fine. Thanks!
