Well, that's a problem. I believe someone was into your instrument cluster with a "back door" tool. There are two reasons why people use tools like that; either to roll back the odometer, or to match new keys to the immobilizer. Obviously there's no excuse at all for the former, and for the latter, there's a right way (using the proper tools) and plenty of questionable ways...

The current mileage is consistent with the progression of service records throughout the time that the previous owner had the car. So I believe the mileage is correct. I received one remote key and one manual key, both of which seem to match the age of the car, but I realize it's really hard to tell. It just seems a little too coincidental that the first link you sent me has the exact same defective ASAM ID: as mine, and just like mine it is a 2012 Jetta S. Mine was made in Mexico. Didn't notice if origin was mentioned in the other post. Is it possible VW created a variation to the code for these, that even their factory supplied scanners don't recognize?

No, I don't think so. They would either have had a campaign to re-flash them to something that their own diagnostic software recognizes or they would have made an accommodation for that ID in their own diagnostic software.
