I have a MY08 Touarge with RNS510 and a retrofitted Factory Reversing camera, Everything works as designed, except for about 30% of the time the camera will not engage (RNS510 stays on selected display - Radio etc.) I have been trying to resolve this fault for sometime now including re-termination cables and swapping out the camera controller. All to no result.

Does anybody have some experience with this issue, as I would very much appreciate some help in fixing this. I installed the camera to make hitching my caravan simpler, however when it won't work all the time it becomes rather pointless.

I have attached the scan details for the modules. And, Yes, I know it is OLD, as the laptop with the current information and Release 12 is not here at the moment........

Kind regards

Stuart

This is not a complete scan? Why not latest version of VCDS?

I would say look on trans for multifunction switch.
Look for trans to show Reverse being seen, and cluster display for CAN message of Reverse.......... to be displayed if supported in advanced measuring blocks.
Check to see if parking aid is configured........... if supported, and is the issue there when on....... verse off, if selectable.

.

In my post, my laptop is not here, its at work and its 38 kilometres to pick it up on a Sunday.....

I am quite sure it is not a switch issue as "R" is always displayed in the MFD and reversing lamps always work. If the CAN bus was not getting the Reverse signal either or both of these would be expected to be impacted.

Switch in shifter assembly itself?............ if supported since information is incomplete and only can be speculated.
Could also be undefined switch condition for ignition or something in BCM.......
Maybe familiarize with WD and SSP of units.

Even though you state you posted this old version........... I still have to ask why trying to get more data?
Old version scan.......... verse incomplete!............. are two entirely different things.

Sorry Jack, if I misunderstood you. Collected my laptop from work, and have included a current scan...

The Central Conv errors are due to hitting a Roo ( Kangaroo) and needs a little care and attention.

Also I accidentally killed the Calibration of the Reversing Camera, just a week ago. The problem has been persisting from the date of installation, about 2 years back.

Kind regards
Stuart

If the camera goes offline sporadic, maybe check connector at camera or run overlay to do temp testing and isolate the harness verse bad camera wake.

Are you saying the connection at the Physical Camera in the tail gate or the connector at the Camera Controller? The reason I ask is, when this fails nothing changes on the RNS510, it does not display a reversing camera frame without an image, it does not change away from the previous display ( radio, hdd, map ....). I have reseated the multi-pin connectors on both the Camera Controller and the RNS and that has had no apparent effect. If I was experiencing a poor connection at the camera I would expect to see a "Black" screen on reverse, which I am not. My wife's car has the same system RS510 with Reversing Camera and Controller. I have disconnected her camera and she does get the reversing camera frame but without an image.. This is not how mine behaves. I just get "nothing at all" about 30% of the time.....Help!

Disconnected the camera, or the camera controller? I seriously doubt the video image is transferred over CAN.

I would login to the camera controller and hunt for MVBs that indicate the car's gear or whether or not it's active. Whether or not it reliably sees the gear change may guide further troubleshooting. That label file isn't available in plaintext so I can't guide you to a specific one. It also does diagnostics over CAN, so watching a MVB refresh in VCDS for a while may give you a feeling for whether its CAN bus connectivity is stable.

Disconnected the camera, or the camera controller?

On my wife's car, this happened when I unplugged the coax from the camera with the controlled connected and active. That's why I initially thought I had a faulty camera controller, which has now proven to not be the case. I understand the function of a Control Area Network (CAN) bus system, and as you state, it wouldn't have displayed the blank "frame" without the controller being active.

Tonight I will have a look at the MVB to see what it tells me..

Many thanks
Stuart.

Try MVB 051:
051,1,Status,Terminal 15,Range: Term. 15 ON/Term. 15 OFF
051,2,Status,Reverse Gear
051,3,Speed Signal,(CAN)
051,4,Speed Signal,(Status)

As dumb as it may sound make sure the cluster and reverse lights are responding simultaneously. (Use a reflective surface like another car behind you ... or only do so with the key on, engine off for safety if using human feedback) ;)

Edit, after scrolling through this thread and reading Jack's BCM notes... that got me thinking about the 46-Central Conv. switching, specifically the tailgate/hatch switch. I'm pretty sure the RVC won't operate if it doesn't think the boot is closed. You have a 69-Trailer controller so I suppose that's another player that could prevent RVC operation.

Thanks Dana, I will do some further test to see what happens. For you info, the Camera still show an image when the hatch is open, however the frame and warning text are not displayed. Does this help at all?
