Hi Guys!

I've got an Audi A8 4e and bought a VCDS to do some read outs for faultcodes and maybe some coding.
Now i'm learning more and more about what VCDS can and can't do, and that, sometimes, provides me with questions.

99% of all questions is well documented and can be found quit simple, but one in a while a question comes up that i can't find the question for, though this could be that it would be a great question or that an answer is so obvious that no one asks this question or i just can't find it with all my best searching intentions...

So, leaving the short introduction behind, here is a question about adaptations:

For example:
Code:

Looking at channel 01 the coding says 8030
When i open this channel in VCDS a yellow pop-up appears with the following information:

Code:
Channel 001: Installation List I (MMI Functionality)

+00001 = Adaptive Cruise Control installed (PR-8T4)
+00002 = Ambient Lighting installed (PR-QQ1)
+00004 = Acoustic Parking System Front installed (PR-7X2)
+00008 = Acoustic Parking System Rear installed (PR-7X1/7X2)
+00016 = Tire Pressure Monitoring System installed (PR-7K3/7K4/7K5)
+00032 = Sunroof installed (PR-3FE/3FR)
+00064 = Adaptive Air Suspension installed (PR-1BK)
+00128 = 802.11p Module installed
+00512 = One Touch Memory (Fingerprint) installed
+01024 = Seat Adjustment Front installed (PR-3PN)
+02048 = Seat Adjustment Rear installed (PR-5Z1)
+04096 = Multi-Function Steering Wheel installed (PR-1XW)
+08192 = Lane Change Assistant installed
+16384 = Lane Holding Assistant installed
+32768 = Back-Up Camera installed

As every number is multiplied by 2 one can check the provided number with the installed equipment, in this case:

8030 -04096 = Multi-Function Steering Wheel installed (PR-1XW)
3934 -02048 = Seat Adjustment Rear installed (PR-5Z1)
1886 -01024 = Seat Adjustment Front installed (PR-3PN)
862 -00512 = One Touch Memory (Fingerprint) installed
350 -00256 = !!!???
94 -00064 = Adaptive Air Suspension installed (PR-1BK)
30 -00016 = Tire Pressure Monitoring System installed (PR-7K3/7K4/7K5)
14 -00008 = Acoustic Parking System Rear installed (PR-7X1/7X2)
6 -00004 = Acoustic Parking System Front installed (PR-7X2)
2 -00002 = Ambient Lighting installed (PR-QQ1)
0

What the...! the multiplied number 256 must be part of my 8030 code!? but looking at the yellow code 256 doesn't appear.
Logicaly it has to be a possibility, but not knowing what it does is scaring me a bit.

Doing an search on the net i've found an list for a Audi A6 that contains number 256:
+00256 = Rain Sensor installed (PR-8N3)
though this list doesn't contain 00128 and 00512! the rest of the numbers are identical to the Audi A8 list.

So, here is the question, this yellow list does not seem to be complete, is this correct and why isn't this complete, how or where can i find a complete list of all possible inputs?
I do beleive that maybe not every code is known but then maybe it's better to see something like "+00256 = function unknown"?

Or is this function not possible or nessicary on my vehicle and therefore not shown?

Many thanks in advance for your reply's!

Well, sometimes 'we' simply don't know... that's the simple answer.

First of all, thanks for responding

Allright, in this case it looks like it has to be "+00256 = Rain Sensor installed (PR-8N3)" and that all the codes correspond with adaptation options of a Audi A6 (4F) (click to see wiki)
The A6 is missing 2 values (00128 and 00512) and the A8 is missing one value (00256).
In the Ross-tech wiki of the A8 4E the adaptation is missing.'

What can i do to complete this wiki and the yellow labelfile in VCDS? Can i send an e-mail or do i post these codes somewhere?

I think that it would be a good idea to put them in the yellow labelfiles in VCDS as unknown so that if someone knows them they can post them somewhere so we can expand VCDS where possible.

Well, are you sure the A8 in question and the A6 4F are using the same control module (both HW and SW)?

No, I own the A8, the adaptation posibilitys of the A6 ar found on the ross-tech wiki.

So i can't confirm this, but the possibilitys that are listed are the same except for the one's not listed (see my previous posts)

I'd call it a bit of a rookie mistake to assume it has the same coding scheme. It might very well be possible, but I'd say you 'gaat een beetje te kort door de bocht' (admin note: english, speak it, yes). He's cutting a few corners to reach this assumption.
If the said A8 and A6 share the same module HW and SW, I'd say you're right. But otherwise, be careful... Just because they look the same, doesn't mean they are the same. +256 in your car may very well have no meaning, or even worse, a different meaning.

Well i do understand your comment, though my car has this initial coding of 8030, which include +256.
So it doesn't seem meeningless, of coures my car has an rain sensor and i cant find any other place in the mmi where to activate it.

So imho it has to be the rainsensor, or is this deduction wrong?

Our current 4E0-910-7xx-07.lbl label file, in both the Release and Beta versions, contains the following Adp 001 info:
Code:
A001,0,Installation List I (MMI Functionality)
A001,5,Installation List I (MMI Functionality)
A001,6,+00001 = Adaptive Cruise Control installed (PR-8T4)
A001,7,+00002 = Ambient Lighting installed (PR-QQ1)
A001,8,+00004 = Acoustic Parking System Front installed (PR-7X2)
A001,9,+00008 = Acoustic Parking System Rear installed (PR-7X1/7X2)
A001,10,+00016 = Tire Pressure Monitoring System installed (PR-7K3/7K4/7K5)
A001,11,+00032 = Sunroof installed (PR-3FE/3FR)
A001,12,+00064 = Adaptive Air Suspension installed (PR-1BK)
A001,13,+00128 = 802.11p Module installed
A001,14,+00256 = Rain Sensor installed (PR-8N3)
A001,14,+00512 = One Touch Memory (Fingerprint) installed
A001,16,+01024 = Seat Adjustment Front installed (PR-3PN)
A001,17,+02048 = Seat Adjustment Rear installed (PR-5Z1)
A001,18,+04096 = Multi-Function Steering Wheel installed (PR-1XW)
A001,19,+08192 = Lane Change Assistant installed
A001,20,+16384 = Lane Holding Assistant installed
A001,21,+32768 = Back-Up Camera installed

That file isn't encrypted so you can open it with Notepad from this location to make sure the local file on that PC isn't corrupt: C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Labels

If your file doesn't contain the A001,14,+00256 = Rain Sensor installed (PR-8N3) line I would reinstall VCDS Release or install the Beta in the default location so you can compare the files side by side.

Breaking down 8030 results in:

+2 = Ambient Lighting installed (PR-QQ1)
+4 = Acoustic Parking System Front installed (PR-7X2)
+8 = Acoustic Parking System Rear installed (PR-7X1/7X2)
+16 = Tire Pressure Monitoring System installed (PR-7K3/7K4/7K5)
+64 = Adaptive Air Suspension installed (PR-1BK)
+256 = Rain Sensor installed (PR-8N3)
+512 = One Touch Memory (Fingerprint) installed
+1024 = Seat Adjustment Front installed (PR-3PN)
+2048 = Seat Adjustment Rear installed (PR-5Z1)
+4096 = Multi-Function Steering Wheel installed (PR-1XW)

That matches the label file so I don't think we have an error in 4E0-910-7xx-07.lbl.

I'm afraid it's indeterminable to see if you're right, until you either post a full autoscan or find yourself a bunch scan on the web from some similar cars, with and without RLS.

That's a bug in the label file.

Right, the second line should read:
A001,15,+00512 = One Touch Memory (Fingerprint) installed

Yes! That would prevent line 14 from loading for the end user! I'll fix that now.

Edit, the OP can paste this in place of the existing data:

A001,0,Installation List I (MMI Functionality)
A001,5,Installation List I (MMI Functionality)
A001,6,+00001 = Adaptive Cruise Control installed (PR-8T4)
A001,7,+00002 = Ambient Lighting installed (PR-QQ1)
A001,8,+00004 = Acoustic Parking System Front installed (PR-7X2)
A001,9,+00008 = Acoustic Parking System Rear installed (PR-7X1/7X2)
A001,10,+00016 = Tire Pressure Monitoring System installed (PR-7K3/7K4/7K5)
A001,11,+00032 = Sunroof installed (PR-3FE/3FR)
A001,12,+00064 = Adaptive Air Suspension installed (PR-1BK)
A001,13,+00128 = 802.11p Module installed
A001,14,+00256 = Rain Sensor installed (PR-8N3)
A001,15,+00512 = One Touch Memory (Fingerprint) installed
A001,16,+01024 = Seat Adjustment Front installed (PR-3PN)
A001,17,+02048 = Seat Adjustment Rear installed (PR-5Z1)
A001,18,+04096 = Multi-Function Steering Wheel installed (PR-1XW)
A001,19,+08192 = Lane Change Assistant installed
A001,20,+16384 = Lane Holding Assistant installed
A001,21,+32768 = Back-Up Camera installed

After doing so make sure to Save the local changes to the 4E0-910-7xx-07.lbl file and reconnect to 07 to make sure the pop up balloon shows line 14 properly.

That correction will be included in the VCDS label file after the next major update.
