Hi guys.

I use a lot of forums over the past few weeks these forums have changed to https. I use IE11 for my main browser and Firefox as a backup. When I open these forums a message pops up at the bottom saying Only secure content is displayed which I ignore as the forum shows everything and works as normal.

If I use Firefox on these site there is no message pops up. IE11 is updated as far as you can go with all Windows updates.

Google shows:

Instead of HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP), this website uses HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS). Using HTTPS, the computers agree on a "code" between them, and then they scramble the messages using that "code" so that no one in between can read them. ...
This tutorial will teach you about SSL, HTTP and HTTPS

This site is http://forums.ross-tech.com/?styleid=5 which is the old http. If your thinking of changing to the https as with other forums I just ignore the message and the forum still works and shows everything.

On a side note over the past few weeks I've used this forum. I click on New Posts everything shows but when I click on New Posts again the previous post I looked at has disappeared from the list. A few weeks ago posts that I had looked at were just greyed out so I could easily see which ones I've read.

This isn't a big problem I'm just wondering what has changed over the past few weeks.

The supplier of the forum software did an update. In that update, the new posts were handled slightly differently. They now are removed from the list once read. In the past, to remove them, you had to manually mark the forums read.

I too was a bit alarmed when the change went into effect about 2 months ago and brought it to our forum guru. There is no option to make it as it was.

I've not seen any such change in the behavior...

I use that function heavily, and it's definitely changed. I agree with Keith on this one.

I considered whinging about it, but the new behavior is more "correct" even if it's not to my liking. So I'm not sure if that's tunable.

Santos found the difference. He and I use Quick Links -> Today's Posts. That behavior is unchanged, whereas New Posts has indeed changed, something which I didn't notice, 'cause I never use it.

I guess I never looked at the difference closely before (and I can't now :p) but I seem to recall New Posts behaving like Today's Posts, except it doesn't continue into the "threads below have not been updated since your last visit" section.

I have largely switched to using Today's Posts since the change, and that works for my habitual browsing pattern.

Nah, I often see stuff in the list below "The threads below have not been updated since your last visit or since forums have been marked read. "

I've never really understood when/why the forum software decides to "mark read" because I very rarely tell it to do that explicitly.

edit; actually I just manually changed my shortcut from http to https and it works, so look like you already have https available, it just is not set as the default protocol.

https://forums.ross-tech.com/

Most things on here work on https, but oddly if I use https I can't "Like" any posts.
The link is still there but doesn't appear to work.
On http it's fine...

It probably doesn't like the 'like' script. I get this in Chrome:

If I allow the scripts, the https:// had a red stripe through it, and says 'Non Secure'. But I can like your post now :-)
