Hi All,
So over the weekend, I pulled off one heck of a procedure on my 2003 jetta with 207,xxx miles! It consisted of replacing a cracked exhaust manifold, leaking flex joint on downpipe, and the original K03s turbo with a K04-001 with only 30,xxx miles on it.

After about ~12 hours, I had pulled off success! Bled my coolant system, and everything looked good, i was so happy!

Car ran well, no CEL came up, no boost issues, or anything of the sort. Sadly, I did not perform an auto-scan immediately prior to starting the procedure =( Last time I did an autoscan was on 4/2/18 and I did not have this code.

Anyway, after completing and driving for a day or 2, I ran an autoscan and I get P1287 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249) Open Circuit.

Entire autoscan is here:

I first thought I had forgotten to put back the N249 electrical plug i removed on back of intake manifold plate, but checked that and it is indeed plugged in. Also, checked function of my DV (forge 007) and it holds vacuum OK. So my question is, how can I test using Vag-com the functionality of the N249 valve, prior to shelling out $ for a new one?? Or is there something else I should be looking at?

Thank you all!

Thanks for posting an Auto-Scan!

Vehicle Identification No. 3VWSE69M03M161580
Model Jetta GLS
JEM
Date of production 28.03.2003
Year 2003
Sales type 9M25N4
Engine Code AWP
Transmission Code EHA

An "open circuit" is some sort of electrical path issue.
  • Unplug the N249 and ohm test it, it should be 20 to 35 Ω (at approx. 20° C).
  • With the engine at idle, do you have battery power to /1 (yellow/black) at the N249?
  • /2 (grey/green) goes to ECM T121/105, is that wire to factory design?

You can also play around with Output Testing for fun and games:

You were in here recently, please verify the N249 is plugged into the correct harness connector and not the SAI noid or that left undone.

Please clear codes re-post the scan right after doing so, then do output tests with VCDS to see what is clicking and is for correct component to be initiated.

In addition to Jef's advice, a noid light can also be used to verify if the tracks to the two control solenoids are functional for wiring.

I will confirm N249 is plugged in correctly tonight, and then perform Jef's ohm test as well, and report back !
Thanks All

Just to update everyone, I found the /2 (grey/green) wire broken at the connector, was able to remove the terminal from connector, re-solder, and cleared the code, has not come back yet! Thanks for your help
