This sounds like it is well beyond the skills I have. I can see myself destroying the cluster not knowing what I'm doing.

I'm a new user and this is my first post. This isn't a very helpful way to treat someone genuinely asking for advice. I'll post a scan later today.

Remember this forum is to support OWNERS of VCDS, and an Auto-Scan will give a lot of background information which will help us to help you - that's why posting an Auto-Scan should always be the first thing you do.

That's a better response. Certainly better than a riddle like the last guy. I'll do a scan and post it. Thanks

Jack's knowledge is HUGE, much greater than mine, so it's worth understanding his direct approach as the time may come when you need it.

I'm sure it is. My knowledge of civil engineering is huge but I don't play games with people. It's just not a very nice way to treat people in my opinion. Posting gif images with no explanation? That's just childish behaviour.

Afield23 - I don't intend any offense and I entirely understand your position, but Jack is a very, very unique individual IMHO.

I've never met the man, but his enormous contribution to this forum and the wealth of information that he contributes is..... well impressive!!

I'm not sure that ALL here share his views, but that don't matter because there is always something to be learned in his writings and his posts always makes us (well, me really) - think!

I actually enjoyed his GIF of a very young New Zealand actor that we have adopted as an Australian - something that we do a lot when folk from "across the ditch" are successful!! It made me think

Anyway, I'm sure that Jack is reading this and quietly borrowing another of Rusty's famous lines: "are you not entertained"? Answer - Jack's posts are always entertaining!!!

But enough of the hagiography!

Don

Yes I agree with Don. Jack is a special kind of guy. Hugely intelligent and knowledgeable but has his own way of communicating stuff.
In the end, he has to live up to the JackAss part of NostraJackAss. I'm sure being on the receiving end isn't as amusing as simply reading it, but don't worry... He's here to help.

Geo technical dirt mechanic? :p

Oh boy more over educated titles again.......... I prefer NostraJackASS or asshole.... whatever, I resent childish! :rolleyes:

I still see no scan, however, let me say this & as insincere or inverse as I possibly can, you know like a byte swap in a hex editor.

I don't apologize!

Lighten up dude and cough up the fun tickets for the collective to at least try to help.

Hmmm let me ask a question, being new and tossed into the owners pub, and which indeed has already asked me for follow up with reiteration, confirming others already requested auto-scan data?

What to do, but I'm an engineer so I should get a pass, that's it, entitlement angle?

Thank you Afield23 for the scan. Would it be possible to make a picture of the rear of the cluster? Or check whether it has any inscription like VDO, Johnson Instruments, Continental, etc.?

It's a VDD 3D cluster. No real need for picture. - But is always good if making it is possible.

I see that this cluster eeprom i a 886 A, which means it a EU(km/h) software. The Speedo gauge section of the Eeprom may be modified to match UK(Miles), but we can't be certain as we don't see inside software. The best would be loading a 2K5 920 986 A(Notice the 9? - UK). But finding such software on a very tight search range(UK 3D Caddy Cluster) may be tricky.

Uses 32 PIN blue for UDS iichel.....

0x17 Cluster supersedes to part number 2K5-920-886AX
Uses embedded 0x25 Immobilizer

Diesel dyke application and supports PR codes T0P for 2.0 04L , TF3 for 1.6 03L and TP4 for 2.0 03L

OK, then we should be in business.
When reading the EEPROM with EEPROM clip, it should both be 24C64. But there's a slight chance, your old cluster is 24C32.
That makes things a bit more difficult.
This is what I know from my Polo cluster swap to an Amarok TDI cluster (MFA+).
Read with care. I'm not 100% sure it applies to our cluster. Always use backups!

Read EEPROM--> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUWroks_Rd0

Replace line 000000A0 (Offset A0, line 160) from the new cluster with the same line from the old cluster. This is the wheel circumference.
Replacing line 00000060 will adjust the fuel tank characteristics.

Most EEPROM readers will come with a hex editor.

If you're willing to take the guess (no guarantees, no liability towards myself or Ross Tech!)

CH341a --> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CH341A-2...801596?hash=item3d2c0923fc:g:riUAAOSw-0xYNfXD
Complete set --> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SOIC8-Cl...704156?hash=item239beaaf5c:g:E38AAOSwZM9ao~12

I repeat: no guarantees, no liability towards myself or Ross Tech!
