    A4 B7 57 plate 1.9 tdi

    Hi
    A4 B7 57 plate 1.9 tdi
I'm having trouble with a code, that keeps coming up. The code is 01305 which is, I think anyway Accessory Delay Relay Coil Circuit Short To Ground. Is this just the can-bus wires or is there something wrong with my instrument cluster
    Thanks in advance
    Alan

Please post an Auto-Scan so we can see the context of this trouble code, and any other issues present on the car.

Also, please mention the model year of the vehicle. UK plate numbers don't identify the model year and don't mean anything outside the UK.

Thank you for posting an Auto-Scan.

You're missing address 56-Radio entirely, which I think should be present on this car. 37-Navigation is there, but complains of problems talking on the Infotainment CAN bus. Also, the cluster can't see either the radio or the nav unit, both of which are probably on the Infotainment CAN bus. It seems unlikely the cluster is having problems here, more likely the Infotainment CAN wiring or some device on that CAN bus, possibly the radio. Is your radio working? Are there any aftermarket radio/parts here we should know about? Are there any symptoms visible to you as the driver/operator?

I notice address 19-CAN Gateway isn't in the scan either, but it also isn't in the Auto-Scan template for this vehicle so VCDS won't have tried to scan it. This car may be like many others where the instrument cluster also serves as the CAN gateway, but IIRC there's usually a virtual address 19 as well. Perhaps one of the RT folks can comment if this is correct or not.

Nope, no address 19 in the B6 and B7 A4 models.

The scan I have posted, is as far as I can get before VCDS looses connection with the car. I have tried fitting an aftermarket stereo with a can-bus box, but the stereo wouldn't switch on. I had an auto electrician try and fit it, he mentioned that there was something wrong with my clocks, regarding the can-bus. So he ended up hard wiring it in. I wasn't happy with it being hardwired, so I put the original stereo back in. The problem I'm getting now is; I have to turn the stereo off and on manually, rather than just leaving it on and switching it off with the ignition and on again. The elimination doesn't work either.
I don't think it just one problem causing all this but multiple.
Thanks Jason and Uwe for your help

Define "loses connection"... what exactly do you see from VCDS? It should keep trying control modules until the end of the Auto-Scan list. Some you'll have, some you won't.

Come to think of it, you should really have 46-Central Convenience in that scan, if not others...

We'll go ahead and put that down as "confirmed wiring problem."

The factory head unit most likely gets its on/off signaling via CAN, along with other stuff like driver-specific presets, vehicle speed for speed-sensitive volume and also instrument panel backlight on/off and dimming. If it can't talk on the CAN bus, it's not getting that information.

You're going to have to take a close look at the radio wiring harness, paying particularly close attention to the CAN bus wiring pair(s). They will be described as CAN-Hi and CAN-Lo or similar. There will be at least one pair, and there might be two if both Convenience and Infotainment CAN are present at the radio. You'll need a factory repair manual with a wiring diagram to find the wire colors and pin positions you're looking for. Look for cuts, shorts to other wires, or shorts to ground.

Also, since the radio isn't present in diagnostics, check to see if there's a K-line wire present at the radio. I don't know if this radio does diagnostics via K-line or with virtual K-line over CAN or what.

    Hi Jason

I'll have a look in the morning and will report back my findings. I have an Haynes manual with some wiring diagrams, do you know where I might find a better wiring diagram.
