I am just going to print up the pertinent wiring, trans, engine & other schematics for my application. I am also printing each manual/guide/training course/or bit of information that I got on erWin.
In a bit of time, I should be rather versed in my platform & somewhat of a helper on the forums.
It's what I love to do, learn new things & then help others like you are all doing for me.

I messed with the older forms of diagnostics/CAN (9141 & others) with my 24 valve Dodge. Got pretty good at it. Built & sold a few minor electronic upgrades for them, too.
It's just been quite a while & I am quite rusty.

I checked, cleaned, silicone greased all grounds underhood, right & left footwells, steering column. I will get the A pillar ground. Is there any way to find the ground & power connections that are listed as "In main wiring harness"? Or have I just not found that?
With the newer schematics, I will look deeper on Saturday.

Resistance is, well.... Resistance....
I got this car as a challenge. $70 for the tow home. It'll be my new daily commuter. Much better than the F-550. The truck is for remote antenna work (I'm a ham). Also, both will have full amateur radio systems. I will definitely report back, as to how much RF the car can take, per frequency. I will also be able to sniff out noise makers in the system, that many never knew existed.

Oh, I am still active on Cummins forums, even though I did a full runaway explosion 2 years ago...
I started to cry, then realized that it was like a glorious Viking funeral. 623,000 miles on that beast. As Warf would say, "It died well". (Met him one day, 2 years ago (Michael Dorn). Cool & humble kinda guy.

Well, I am finally home with the column & shifter. No work tonight, but a bit of studying.
The column is complete, less airbag. I am almost contemplating swapping the whole thing, as (As far as I know) the steering wheel bolt removal tool is not in any of my tool boxes, unless a normal Torx will work?

Shifter looks relatively simple, actually. It seems that there will be a magnet, or ferrous metal, in the white part of the shifter. It's on the backside of the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). On the other side, I am guessing some form of hall effect units that indicate the gear selection, as they correspond to positions well. THen off to the chip.

Ya know, I will install the replacement, but will also try to diagnose the real issue with the shifter system.

Yes, yes, I surely will take many photos to document it all, pass or fail.

This was a car that sat for 5 months. PO got it jumped, drove to work, never could get it out of Park.
Main issue was the shifter, as just plugging it into the harness & clearing the codes put it right.
Radio now does not function at all & no comms. No biggie.If it did finally die (Was working), I'll just pull it & install my ham radio head units with a plate to seal it off. Oh, I have full access to a machine shop at work.

Now, as for the steering angle sensor, it was fine. Just a bad Column controller.I originally thought it might be part of the problem & it was. I still have to do adaptations on the sensor, along with windows & other stuff.

So, for a grand total of about $600 including the VCDS, I have an 08 Jetta. Scrapping the ol' LeSabre, which will cover it all.

In a few weeks, I will do my best to diagnose the shifter. I still have several projects ahead of it. I will start a new thread on it.

Radio may be fried. Not sure. Just wondering of there might be a setting to enable it? I cannot even communicate with it.

I have the premium sound system. Not sure if it has the CD changer, but obviously, it has sattelite radio (Won't be used).

Now, I am still learning. I have the radio adaptation & coding all printed out. Just need to turn the bugger on.

I do recall trying to turn the CD changer on & that might be when I messed up.

02635 - Tuner Not Enabled/Activated -- this just means that Sirius/XM tuner doesn't have an active subscription.

Radio: Is it getting power? A lot of them have a dedicated fuse on the back of the radio itself....

Well, I guess leaving the center console & a bunch of dash panels off helps...

When I started, the radio functioned. It was giving 16.1V or above & 7.01V below voltage, with no comms.
I'll pull it over the weekend & see what I find.
