Does this DTC come back at the same time as the one for Incorrect Chassis (VIN) Number ?

00474 - Control Module for Immobilizer
    004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

yes, I'll come back with a scan (not immediately before the swap but I'll post the last one logged before the change) and the rest of the information you and jack were asking about

If the airbag module always sets a No Signal/Communication with Immobilizer DTC whenever it also sets a Incorrect Chassis (VIN) Number DTC, then you should focus on the former, not the latter. You either have a dodgy cluster or a problem in your wiring.

So here's a partial scan (Engine) from a bit ago I was able to dig up, not a full scan but proves (I think) that it's normal for my ECU to NOT report my VIN in the 'extra' column as it is currently doing
    Code:
                    Address 01: Engine Labels: 06B-909-518-AMB.lbl
    Control Module Part Number: 8E0 909 518 AF HW: 8E0 909 018 A

Here is the answers to the WIKI readouts (Engine does NOT display VIN/IMMO in extra field however Instruments DOES show them in the extra field)

WAULC68E33A372452 AUZ6Z0C0439357 <> Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) & Serial Number
And last here are the readouts from specific addresses requested:

Questions about the cluster wiring: Is one of the cable looms responsible for input and the other output? This might explain why the cluster appears to work fine receiving and displaying information but in the background all components requesting information from the cluster is not receiving a response??? I'll have to wait until this afternoon to pull the cluster and check the wiring and look for bent pins.

Thanks for the data. VIN and Immo-ID match between the cluster and the ECU, which is a good sign but I'm not sure it's enough to declare your Immo healthy. There's at least one MVB you can watch to see Immo handshake between the components live, but I don't recall which one or how it works.

Why did you replace your instrument cluster? Was there a fault of some sort, or did you just want to upgrade to a different one? Are you sure your new cluster is the correct type of cluster for this car? Did you have the VIN mismatch errors before you replaced the cluster, or only after?

I believe that all data comms wiring, both K-line and CAN, is bidirectional. However, some of those buses are split/filtered at the cluster or CAN gateway.

Yep, MVB 081 in the cluster should have data that looks a whole lot like that in MVB 081 in the ECU.

Doesn't it though? Except for the labeling but that is added from VCDS not read from the components, correct?

    Address 01: Engine (8E0 909 518 AF)

Sorry, I must need better glasses or something.

    In ECU you have:
    12:45:14 Group 081
    WAULC68E33A372452 AUZ6Z0C0439357 <>

    And in Cluster:
12:48:22 Group 081: Advanced Control Module Identification II
    WAULC68E33A372452 AUZ6Z0C0439357 <>

So they appear to be correctly matched. And yes, the labeling comes from VCDS, not the module.

Anyway, I'm still with Dodgy cluster or wiring/connection problem.

I'll check it out when I get home and report back. I suppose I can also take the transponder out of my key (carefully! and attempt to start the car to test the immobilizer and if it continues to run then I definitely have an immo issue going on.

Thanks everyone for the input and bearing with me.
