I have an Audi Q5 FY series (2018 model) and have retrofitted an already parameterized rear view camera. It all works fine in that I see a good image when reversing. However the camera reports that it has not been calibrated.

So I have access to a VAS6350 and set this up exactly as per the workshop manual for the car and set the car conditions as prescribed, but whatever I do i cannot get VCDS to initiate the calibration, I get this error from the basic settings screen: "The Parameter Is Incorrect". I have also tried entering security code 22351 but that errors with "function not available in current session".

Hello again! I have just tried to initiate the 6C Camera calibration and failed in all cases, this is what I tried:

Installed VCDS 18.4 Alpha as a separate instance and upgraded HEX-NET to 4422 and verified. All normal functions worked fine.

Tried to initiate calibration and get this error message:

If as suggested above by NETech I choose "Show Measuring Data" > Search for "rearview" and mark these before hitting GO, I see that none of the measurements will transfer into the measurement window, and the function still fails regardless of what I try - makes no difference.

This is how the measurements window looks under "show measurements" from basic settings:

Looks exactly the same under 18.2 for information.

I have set the car up exactly as per the manual:

Requirements for calibration


♦ Camera lens must be clean.
♦ Vehicle must be positioned on a firm and even surface.
♦ There must be sufficient space around the vehicle.
♦ Parking brake must be activated.
♦ Steering wheel must be in centre position, wheels must be straight.
♦ All doors and the rear lid must be closed.
♦ There must not be anyone inside the vehicle.
♦ Vehicle must not be loaded (unladen weight).
♦ Switch on ignition before every calibration.

....and have set up VAS 6350 as required also.

So have drawn a blank! Help!

I've retrofitted rvc on a Tiguan, using ODIS and evwn then I'm unable to calibrate.

I enter the needed stuff on odis(Camera height, distance to calibrationboard and height of calibration board) and it still fails. I think i did that today 39 times and every one of these attempts failed.

It's either something is not described properly or the moon is out of phase.

Interesting, but not sure whether that is relevant to the MLB Evo platform - would need to see camera type to compare. I do see forum members calibrating earlier cameras fine with VCDS. Mine is a 2018 model year. The positioning of calibration board is critical for a good result but I don't even get started! I have also seen VCDS scans of the same car and platform (x2) that are calibrated fine. So should be possible....

Measurements don't start showing until the basic settings run, so that part is normal. VCDS is also accepting your parameters now, so that is progress, even though it may not feel like it at this point. Next I'd like to check whether VCDS is sending what the controller is expecting, and for that I need a debug 1024. Options, debug output 1024, save, attempt the basic setting, quit VCDS gracefully, and send support@ross-tech.com the resulting debug-6c.dlm from your Debug folder.
It's entirely possible we're missing a security access or mode change, but let's take things one a time :)

Unfortunately I don't have good news for you. The data that needs to be sent to the controller to perform this basic setting exceeds VCDS' current limitations in several ways. There are 17 user-input parameters (you only see two), for a total of about 75 bytes of data. Even when we are at the point where we can offer the user and process this much information, I'm not sure how you are going to figure out what to put in those fields:

For the time being, I think ODIS would be a better choice, assuming it even works (see golfi_vend's post).

Ok, thanks for your help!

I have made an appointment with a very good retro-fitter who has a full dealer ODIS system and who does these cameras regularly, they say they can calibrate them successfully so we will see. I do know that the clone VAS6154 devices cannot do this as they are not true replicas. Most of the data above can be measured and is referred to in the workshop manual such as:

Cam0 Changing default data - Ground to Camera Z
Cam0 Changing default data - Ground to wheel arch Z
Cam0 height of marker
Cam0 Marker size Full-size or Half-size
Cam0 Transversal position front axle
Cam0 Transversal position rear axle

the others should be the result of the calibration as I understand it and therefore the figures/data would be filled in by the camera calibration process.



I will let you know how I get on with the ODIS setup!

It would be awesome if your retrofitter could record an ODIS CAN-bus trace and document the whole process via screenshots. I understand though if time does not permit. The way we've envisioned handling such cases is with a custom "script" file that would let you put the values in the file, and VCDS would take it from there. It will likely be a long, iterative process though.

Ok, so I had the camera calibrated by HazzDayz yesterday using ODIS-s (fully licensed online version with genuine VAS-6154 head) and all went fine. At first they followed the workshop manual and only set up the "domino" board at the rear of the car, but the camera calibration routine failed and asked for two side boards to be set up as well that look like small dominos stood on their ends on poles, these are set up to define the corners of the car and are why the wheel arch height is needed.

After these were setup and the calibration re-started, all went fine. From start to finish it took 20 minutes.

As they are a commercial venture (and very good) they were not able to do traces and screen shots as it is a very busy place.

So a good resolution, no basic settings missing errors and the lines and boxes shown within the camera are now sport on, very happy!

Hello guys, hopefully somebody will see this post on this old thread. I'm working on a SQ5 FY Argentinian market. No RVC from factory (crazy right). Anyway, I retrofitted one, tapped CAN to pin 12 and 30 at gateway's connector. Video signal to pin 6 and 12 of headunit and tapped power from headunit also. Added 6C to 19 and perform adaptation on 5F

After doing this camera works but image flickers every second or so.
I think it could be some coding issue, or maybe adaptions but at this point I'm lost. My VCDS long coding helper doesn't show any description since is not available, not even experimental mode. Any ideas? I will really appreciate any input.
