ABS/Parking brake malfunction :: throwing codes 01321/00473

My 2009 Audi B8 A4 Avant threw Parking Brake and ABS warning lights on the dash. In looking under the seat for a connection/wiring issue, I did find that the driver's seat belt wire was snapped off. Could that be the issue? Based on the scan I'm looking at 01321 and 00473. I've seen several folks with the same, which ended up being the ABS control module, but I was hoping to get a little further before buying/replacing parts to see what fixes it. Car runs as normal so I don't believe it's an MAF issue (another often seen symptom). I've looked at the below links, but could anyone take a look at the faults to advise me if there is any other info there to go on? Thx!

The ABS fault is telling you it's aware of a fault in the EPB.
The EPB is telling you it's aware of a fault in the Airbags.
The Airbag module has an actual fault.

I've never seen two levels of indirection like that, but one is common. In any case, the seat belt switch fault in the airbag module should be reasonably straightforward to correct, so I'd certainly do that before throwing any other parts (such as an ABS module) at the car.

The driver's seat belt latch has a wire to it which is broken. To fix I have to pull the seat to replace the entire latch. Are you saying it's possible that this could be throwing the ABS and EPB codes?

Well, the EPB is aware of the fault in the Airbag Module. The EPB wants to know that the seatbelt switches are functioning properly because its behavior is different if the occupants are belted in than if they aren't. With occupants belted in, it's willing to release the parking brake automatically under some circumstances..

The ABS is aware of the fault in the EPB. TBH, I'm not sure why the ABS cares, and like I said, I haven't previously seen (or noticed) two levels of indirection like this, but hey... Fixing a broken wire should be a whole lot cheaper/easier than replacing an ABS or EPB control module, so that's what I'd do first.

Thanks Uwe - I'll replace that seatbelt receiver. But, that wire looks to be just a simple two wire; do you think I can just bridge the contacts to close the circuit to quickly test to see if that is the issue?

Is this car FOD tuned altered modified?

Have you recently changed the engine?

Ohm out passenger side belt switch to compare and simulate a good reading before a wire bridge & just in case or use RTFB or swap the plugs to isolate & see if fault moves.

Hi Jack - The car is stock and not tuned/altered/modified. The engine was replaced at 95k

Ok so why did the engine fail and did they change the engine under warranty extension or was this done at outside repair station with cost out of pocket?

Any major accidents causing FOD or warranty being voided?

Any pictures?

I bought the car used at around 94k, went to the dealer where it was serviced it’s whole life previously and got the whole service history. Let me dig it out for you. I found that it went through oil consumption tests, they made fixes, but found metal in the oil pan at 90+k and replaced the engine just before I bought it.

No accidents, no warranty voiding. Looks like the dealer/owner split the costs of the engine/labor.

I bought the car used at around 94k, went to the dealer where it was serviced it’s whole life previously and got the whole service history. Let me dig it out for you. I found that it went through oil consumption tests, they made fixes, but found metal in the oil pan at 90+k and replaced the engine just before I bought it.

No accidents, no warranty voiding. Looks like the dealer/owner split the costs of the engine/labor.

Wow that car has had a hard life & with all those water pumps and oil/air leaks + pistons under warranty and then basically a third of second rebuilt engine traded for a complete engine that was destroyed not under warranty?

I know! It was like a new car by the time I got it but I understand why the previous owner cut bait. The only issue I've had (and would love your insight here), is all the 12V sockets are inactive. Relays/fuses are good, haven't found any wiring issues. Haven't been able to get those powered.
