Hi,

My name is marco. I have a small workshop in Melbourne Australia and have been using VCDS for a few years now. I have come across a 2011 vw golf GTI that another technician has tampered with the wiring to the BCM due to the fact that the RHF turning signal was staying on. He has touched the wiring to the BCM and now there is no voltage to the LHR turn signal, as well as the failure lamp on the instrument cluster. Not to mention 2 fault codes in the central electronics module.
I was mainly wondering if someone had a step by step procedure on how I could code a S/H module to this vehicle with VCDS as I have never done it before.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Thanks,

Well it would be good to start with an autoscan to see if it's golf 6 or 7 and what bcm we're talking about.
Did you already have a look at the wiring to undo the wiring of the first technician?

OK thank you very much.
I'd say replacing the BCM is not very difficult. Make an autoscan of the current coding (check), make a controller adaptation map of 09, swap BCM, place back coding and adaptation channels and marry the remotes for central locking.

However, I'm not completely sure whether replacing the BCM will solve your problems.
Knowing there has been some messing around with the wiring, I'd certainly first verify the wiring from BCM to endpoint, in this case light switch, blinker bulbs and dimmer.

Some errors are flagged as intermittent, meaning they showed up and disappeared (and may have repeated this cycle).
This could mean they are solved already. Do they return after you clear them?

Hi iichel,

I understand what you are saying, however when I first looked at the vehicle the Right hand front turn side was staying on solid as the customer had changed the front headlights to an aftermarket type. The turn signal was still illuminated even with the ignition off and key out of barrel. He then took the vehicle to another workshop who chopped and changed the wiring going into the BCM to make the front turn side function correctly, however now there is no power to the rear left turn side lamp assembly. Hence why I think that the BCM is at fault.
This problem has also caused that the turn signal to flash fast on the instrument cluster and normal on the outside. I should post a pic of the wiring mods that have been done.

I was wondering if you could provide a more step by step guide document on the BCM programming? Do I require 2 keys or is 1 enough?

So it's not the BCM that's been tampered with, it's the wiring to the BCM - meaning the BCM may well be fine and all that's needed is sorting out the wiring?

that's my hypothesis, yes.
but there's a saying in medicine, choose your specialization and you choose your diagnosis. we always think about what we know best, in my case, wiring.

I'm an electronic systems engineer, so my specialisation is the system - meaning I look at the wiring, the electronics and the firmware as a whole - and I've reached the same conclusion as you.

If the right hand front turn side was staying on way before the wiring was tampered with to the BCM doesn't that mean that there could have been an internal issue with the module. And now that this is no power getting to the rear left turn side, would that suggest that it would be internal aswell.

Much of the BCM configuration is by coding and adaptation channels, so it could be caused by an incorrect setup not only by faulty hardware.

This problem was sorted out. It was a faulty BCM. It was replaced and program with VCDS and everything works fine.
