Skoda Yeti won´t start when cold. Interlock bit problem

Hello!

I´m working on a Yeti that won´t start when it´s cold outside.
The only thing i find is that when it does not start i get 01000001 on the Interlock P/N Bit 0 IDE00413-ENG104207.

But what does this read, what does the value mean?

If i but a heater in the car for 1-2 hours, the value goes to 00000000. Then i can start the car!?!?

What do you mean when you say "won´t start"?

Starter motor won't turn over engine?

Or engine turns, but won't fire?

The first one, the starter motor won´t turn around the engine.
Starter don´t get a signal from the relay.
And when you press the clutch pedal, one value should change in the ECU values to indicate that the pedal is down.
But when it is cold, i only get this 01000001, And after heating 1-2 hours, The 01000001 goes 0000000.
Then i can press the clutch pedal and that value goes from 0 to 1, And the starter goes around.

It´s like when you have a automatic gearbox, and you try to start on the Drive, But this is a Manual gearbox.

So you are saying when it is cold, nothing changes when you press the clutch pedal, but when it is warm, it does change when you press the clutch pedal?

If that's correct, it sounds like you may have found the problem. :)

Clutch switch faulty for safety lock out.

Check clutch switch for mechanical damage, basic settings & related water damage for corrosion bridge affected by temperature or humidity.

Change clutch switch........

Uwe: The interlock value changes value when it´s warm vs cold inside. But it does not seem to have anything to do with the clutch switch. That´s why i´m trying to findout what the value is reading. I have checked all values from the hall sensor with my oscilloscope.

Jack@European_Parts: The Clucth switch is a Hall sensor, and no mechanical damage, and is on the engine compartment on the clutch master cylinder that is always in the cold. First i tried to measure it and it was okey. Then i changed the sensor to be sure. And the same problem. I have checked all cables. And the problem is still when it´s cold inside the car it does not start, and when i warm it for 1-2 hours. It starts. So i´m trying to figure out what the interlock values reading inside tha car that is in the warm temp.

What operates the Hall Sensor? Its possible that the magnetic (or magnetised metal) has lost some of its magnetism over time, an effect which will be more noticeable when it's cold.

That bit reflects the status of the "Park / Neutral Interlock", which prevents the the starter from engaging when it shouldn't. But exactly what sets or un-sets this bit on your particular car is not entirely clear.

Are you measuring for power at the starter directly and or at relay to starter to see if possibly it is a bad starter?

What about condition of the actual ignition switch or as Uwe indicated the park neutral safety switch?

Ground strap to block being poor can also effect a starter .........

Uwe: Okey, Than i have to look more what the bit in the Interlook is reading in actual sensor.

Jack@European_Parts: The problem is to get the two relays for the starter motor solinoid to engage. Something is stopping it for safety reason when it´s cold. But i don´t get any error codes. So when i look on all advanced mesure values in 01 Engine in VCDS. Then about the "park neutral safety switch" i don´t understand what that can be in a car with manual gearbox.

I have been looking around in ELSA and ETKA to find some sensor that could give me a safety lock. I think i will try on monday to put in the VAS6154 ans try to read the values with ODIS and se if i can se what it could be. Today it was only -9`C outside. Then 20min with heater in the car did the jobb to turn the interlock value 01000001 to 0000000, Then it started perfect again.

Well if a safety lock out you would think you would get a DTC and shit maybe related to temp........

We don't have the Yeti here or Skoda but temp can have an affect on relays or power completion of circuits.

Have you tried inducing faults in starter relays, to see the stack is reporting or if pulses get to them and where the loss of ground, pulse, connectivity attenuation or current is present?

Maybe off topic but made me think of this.........

Today when i started working again after the weekend.
Now it´s only -2`C and there is no problem to try to repair.

This is starting to get a bit tricky!

The brown cable with yellow dots, that is badly welded, is for minus/negative for the return from the hallsensor to the centralelectric J519.
And it made some ripple on the dc to the instrumentcluster also so when i got near the problem. The instrumentcluster was starting to make strange things...

Thanks for the help, now it´s time to go over to the next strange problems on a Audi Q3.
