Dear members,
I have a VW Phaeton 2005, the problem is that I cannot control the level of the car.
It stores only one fault code, after Wheel/Height recalibrating I can control until I restart the engine. After restarting the level control button not makes anything.
I attached the auto scan:

I'd start by looking at MVB 004 and 005.

Thank you for the replies!
I made a screenshot from the 004 and 005 measuring blocks.

looks like the right is about 5-6mm lower in comparison to the left hand side. any idea why this could be?

Well that's a new one.

Dear members,
I have a VW Phaeton 2005, the problem is that I cannot control the level of the car.
It stores only one fault code, after Wheel/Height recalibrating I can control until I restart the engine. After restarting the level control button not makes anything.
Can you explain more about the procedure you used to calibrate the car's ride height? Something has gone pretty badly wrong, somewhere, badly enough for the car to declare the results implausible without even moving (right after you start the engine). I want to make sure you're doing it the right way.

What is the history of this problem? What was originally broken, that caused you to recalibrate the ride height? Any crash damage or other parts replacements? Any aftermarket "lowering" kits that try to fool the level sensors? Or, if you have replaced level sensors, be aware it's easy to install those in a wrong orientation, and that can cause very strange symptoms.

iichel: I not know what can cause the 5-6mm difference.
jyoung8607: The car was bought with this problem. I tried to calibrate as you can see here: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/levelcontrol.html
I not know of any crash on the vehicle, I will put the car into the garage and will verify if I see something unusual on the sensors.

That procedure should do the job. If the car starts out basically level, and you calibrated it at that level, and it then declares itself to be "extremely un-level" for no particular reason, something may be wrong with one of the sensors. There is a level sensor attached to a control arm at each of the four wheels.

Do this very simple test to verify each of your level sensors are working right:

  1. Start with the car on the ground, as level as you can get it.
  2. Enable 'jack mode' to stop the car from auto-leveling. This probably won't matter if the car has already disabled auto-leveling due to the fault, but let's make sure. Here's a video that shows which buttons to hit if you weren't already aware. This car has a newer instrument cluster than yours, and will show the result a little differently, but the same procedure works.
  3. Start up VCDS and start live monitoring address 34 MVBs 004 and 005, as you've already done above.
  4. Use a floor jack to slowly lift and lower one corner of the vehicle at a time, and watch MVB 004 and 005 live while that happens.
You should see the values for that corner change up and down as you lift and lower with the jack. Make sure that happens properly for all four corners, independently. Obviously if you lift very far you'll affect other corners too, and that's fine. You just want to see the MVB 004 and 005 measured height change along with the car's actual height at each corner. I suspect you may find a corner that gives stuck, false, or even inverted readings as actual height changes.

So I fixed partially the car.
The first problem was that I cannot reached the 34th module when the ignition was on, only when the engine was started. The problem was caused by the fuse from the 2nd battery was pulled out because something drained the battery. That is why was fault codes in 71th module. The battery drain was caused by a faulty stationary heater heating element. I pulled out the plug from the heater element, now no battery drain.

The second thing that I found: When the values in MVB 004 are positive values(after calibrating/manually set the sensors to positive position), the system works very good, but the 01781 - Vehicle Extremely Un-Level 003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent fault code still exists.
The problem is when I turn off the engine, the air suspension go down, the MVB 004 has negative values, and when I press the level control button again nothing happens, system inactive again.
Do you know how many is the good value for the MVB 004 when the engine is 'shutted down'?
