Hello guys,

I have in my workshop one passat B6 with CBAB engine. The client came in the workshop because the engine while driving starts shuddering on half or full load intermittent and in some momments even cuts off.

Repair taking cared before he got to me: tank feed pump changed, high pressure, and high pressure feed pump also changed. Fuel rail regulator changed, also fuel filter changed, pipes and fuel tank drained and cleaned.

When he got to me I made him a quick drive test and suposed that injectors are failling so I have sent them to a proffesional workshop for further investigation on the test bench. They turned out all 4 to be out of specs specialy on the full load fuel debit side, realy out of range. I give it a go, ordered new ones from Bosch, replaced them, coded them and surprise, car behaves the same! No signifiant change. Also to mention the car has 615k km so it was clear that injectors could not have gone so many miles without breaking.

I also have noticed that when the engine cuts off after shuddering strong, the batt sign and check engine does not litt but just after pushing the clutch and the rpm drops to 0. It starts right away without no problem and keeps going till it shudders again and stals.

No fault codes stored before, during and after.
I can post an autoscan but there are no related faults stored in regards to this issue. Not even lost comunication erros for the engine ecu that can take you to a power interruption.

Could be a failing ecu or voltage regulators from the ecu that controls the injectors? This version has piezo injectors, a realy pain in the ass. Could be a loose conection somewhere that only makes intermittent interruption when on half/full load throtle?

Any input is highly apreciated as i have run out of options.

If you have an Auto-Scan from this car (look in your Scans sub-folder) please post it. Context is always good.

I don’t realy understand what you are saying. If you realy want to help somebody it is a good start not to condamn him first if he is doing something wrong.

I asked a question sir, you are mistaken........and I pointed you toward a process tree for JPPSG .

Maybe it is you who should check their own process in thy head....no? <<<<<<< See that is a question?

Have you checked the terminal relays and ignition switch too........?

What about a wonky G28?

How is the harness where the idiots but a chafe point by the cylinder head and oil filter?

I have checked electrical conections on the engine bay fuse panel because were with rust signs. Ignition switch was not checked. What issues can cause the ignition switch? I believe if the switch is faulty it shoul trow a fault...

My thoughts were also ar the G28 engine speed sensor but when the engine stalls the rpm gauge is still working

Now, good point about the stupid route of the harnes between the oil filter and engine block. Today left the shop with in mind that tomorrow I should check it out because: there is oil on the harness insulation. It is bended 90 degrees and it is verry close to the engine. May oil an extreme heat cause insulation problems/cracks that causing grounding short issues that is freezing the ECU? I know that piezo injector are working with high voltage up to 200V and also high frequency PWM

See now you are thinking correctly......Pictures!

Don't forget to report back and even though no scan has a DTC it helps others identify the configuration....I happen to know that an CBAB is like a 03L CBEA here in USA.

See now you made me think of Romania street racing and those very pretty girls there.

Well I'll tell you........... I'd be concerned with that glow fault & since it is a load device.

I checked the Glow plug. It has very high rezistance. Over 50 ohm’s , I don’t think it raises any problems that freezes the ECU.

Probably not but you never know with a possible damaged harness or fray.........

I have done repairs on that chafe point a few times and not on my own or existing customers cars, because when the car was new.......I put a buffer there with the forethought.

The engineer which designed that and or signed off on it at the line the day car was built .......should all be fired!

So, after inspection of the wire loom that passes by between the oil filter housing and engine block trough the injectors an fuel pressure valves, found that the main black heat protection for the wires was thered and one wire had friction signs till the bare wire and touching the cylinder head causing intermitent short to ground.

The wire, of course, belongs from the ramp regulator valve, thus causing engine shudering and after shut down for protection pourpose.

This explains why only on some cases of acceleration and vibrations, the engine stall.

Poor guy ( ECU) didn’t even had the time to trow any fault because he shuts down in a blink :))

Thank you in this case VW for such a good engineered wire path.

In conclusion, as Jack said , check the damn wire loom between the oil filter and the cylinder head/engine block, if you run on any problem like this or unexplainable issues ocurring.

This now makes the count "831" in my journal since I disclosed to Eric many years ago......

I imagine the number to start really increasing since numbers have ticked up more than double every year.
