I have recently installed a Emblem Reversing Camera on my 2013 Beetle which is fitted with an RNS510 and it's working OK but Can I change the default screen from the Plan view illustration from the Optical Park System to the Camera as the default ? It would to have the Camera view each time I select reverse rather than having to select it each time. At the moment each time Reverse is selected I have to manually select the reverse camera and also when I select the camera view there are a few different views show, on the right of the screen shows a X to close the screen, a mute selection for the optical park warning sounds, Contrast settings adjustments and the fourth selection is to change back from Camera to the plan view optical sensor. Also generally on the left of the camera screen normally it show a plan view of the car but this doesn’t so can any of these selections be tweaked with VCDS ?

You want to have a look at the PDC unit, login, go to adaptation and play a bit with the display parameter for reverse. You can choose PDC, camera or automatic. Not sure which one you need.

I am very new to all this so can you tell me how to login to the PDC ? is it thru the VCDS or on the RNS510 headhunt ? I haven't seen any way of getting in on the Headunit but maybe there is a way to boot into it, Thanks for your help

No problem, always happy to help!

The polo is a great car, but I'd recommend to go for a 6C, if you're considering one, rather than the 6R like I have. It's the facelifted version.
They are built a bit better than the 6R, mainly engine wise, and the new MQB platform will allow you to tweak your heart out. Plus, the new infotainment system is great.

Emblem Reverse Camera View on Discover Media

Hello, You helped me early in the year with Emblem Reverse Camera View on RNS510 which was a great help but now I have updated my Beetle with a Discover Media which works fine but once again I have an issue with how the Park Pilot displays. I have the Reverse camera working fine but the overlay for the Park Pilot doesn't show on the Left side but once I take it out of reverse the camera view disappears as it should and I get the full screen Park Pilot display so both systems are working but I can't get the overlay when the camera is in use, With the Park Pilot on screen on the Left side I get an icon for the Camera which is grey whereas the Icon at the bottom is white for turning send off which indicates to me the grey icon is not functioning to be able to select it

Hi, I am new to auto scans so it didn't quite come out the way they normally do but anyway you will notice that Radio and Navigation say they cannot be reached and that's because I have changed to the Discover Media and I did try to remove them from the installation list but that didn't work out so easier to just leave them their for the moment and I access module 5F via the Go To function on VCDS because I can't add it to the installation list because it doesn't show on the installation list so I can't add it so it won't show in the Auto scan

I have just been looking at the Introduction to your Polo and I am amazed how much time you put int modifying yours and I am working on a few projects for mine also like Blind spot monitor which I have installed but trying to get it running is challenging as I only had a Golf wiring diagram to start with and that didn't work so now I have the Beetle diagram and that is quite different so I have some wiring problems to solve

You'll need a newer CAN Gateway which supports Controller 5F I presume. Once you do this you should be able to select 5F in the installation list, and from that you should then be able to access the newer Media unit.

You'll need a newer CAN Gateway which supports Controller 5F I presume. Once you do this you should be able to select 5F in the installation list, and from that you should then be able to access the newer Media unit.

Hi and thank you, I tried another gateway and that just added to the problem having so many other options other than 5F and even when I deselected them from the gateway, I had so many modules that I couldn't code or recode correctly that I have given up on that Idea for a little while
I am not that familiar with all the gateway stuff but but everyone says on forums you need a 7N0 or later and I tried that but obviously there is a lot more to it then just getting the latest gateway. I can access 5F directly, just can't add it to the installation list because there is no box to tick for 5F, but I have coded 5F and it works quite well but I just don't get the park pilot overlay on the left side of the screen

What gateway did you try for this?

Since the Beetle is based on the PQ25 electrics platform, perhaps 7N0 isn't the correct gateway? This reference scan from a newer car indicates you would need the following GW.

Code:
Address 19: CAN Gateway (J533) Labels:. 7E0-909-901.clb
   Part No SW: 7E0 909 901 HW: 7E0 937 090
   Component: GW-K-CAN TP20 H81 0744
   Revision: B9081001
   Coding: 502007
   Shop #: WSC 00066 000 00000
   VCID: 688945E162713E87DA8-803D

No fault code found.

Yeah so complicated, the 7E0 937 090 J533 can Gateway, which I have tried, and it does away with the 09: Cent. Elect. (J519) altogether and uses the Can gateway for both and my beetle has both J533 and J519, 2 separate units. so without rewiring the whole system I hoped to use the 7E0 937 090 and the 7N0 but so far that hasn't worked out. I haven't given up but it seems complicated at the moment, it would be nice to have one unit for all but VW seem to tweak each unit for each model and then give it a new part number, so just need to keep playing

I agree with the earlier mention of an incompatible can gateway.
You'll need to fit a bcm with integrated can gateway from the 7E0 family. That is what is currently also fitted in the latest beetle.

The process of removing the external can gateway fortunately is not very complicated.

You will have to run power train can, diagnostics can and instrument cluster can wires to the bcm. I would take them from the G85, obd connector and instrument cluster respectively. Then one last wire from the bcm to the old gateway connector for the Lin alternator.

After that it will be a matter of transferring the coding of the bcm, gateway, battery monitor (if present) and putting the right adaptation values in the modules. And don't forget to learn the remotes.

It may sound a bit complicated but it's very doable :-) and your discover media will work like a charm...

That's good news, when the can gateway I bought didn't do the trick, I bought the latest beetle 7E0, I had something similar in mind, I thought I would be able to run wires from the existing can gateway plug to the BCM but hadn't gotten that far yet.

OK so I get the idea and will work on that thanks

I tried the 7E0 by itself but didn't get far because I have keyless entry and the 7E0 can't recognise that yet and as soon as I went to put power on it couldn't find a key obviously

I will get there eventually, it sounds like you have been in the same situation

I ordered a socket last week to go from the can gateway to save hacking into the existing harness so i'll see how I go and keep you updated

Discover Media has been a great retrofit and with a few refinements I hope to get the Blind Spot Monitor working also, another reason I bought the 7E0 :)
