Well, my 2012 SEL Tiggy has the old-school CAN protocol door modules but some Golf based cars used the new UDS modules back in in 2010 and 2011.

If I had to generalize I'd call the CAN modules Mk5 technology and UDS the MK6 + but VW did NOT draw a straight line at a particular model year. What I can say with certainty is they did NOT use CAN door modules on the MK7 platform.

^^^^ I didn't know that - interesting!! Of course when the Golf was transferred to the MQB platform, the network architecture appears to have undergone some fundamental changes (not surprising I guess) - the earlier mk7 Golfs appear to have LIN based slaves (subsystems?) for the rear door modules (see below - Convenience CAN). On the autocsans for the newer mk7s (FL/7.5), it seems that the rear door modules have been elevated to full CAN members (I think).
